dates....

fi and i are considering some other dates for the big day. what do you guys think....
wed, dec 31, 2004
sun jan 18, 2004 (mon is a holiday)
sun feb 15 2004 (mon is a holiday)
sun may 30, 2004 (mon is memorial day)
sun july 4, 2004 (figured everyone would get the day off on mon)
sun sept 5, 2004 (mon is labor day)

we are trying to save $$$ by choosing off-peak days but still want a evening reception. figured if ppl have the next day off it would be better. i really like dec 31, figured it would be cheap because it's a wed. but fi thinks noone would want to come cause it's new years eve. what do you guys think??

Re: dates....

If I had to rank your days I would do this:
5/30
9/5
2/15
1/18
7/4
12/31

I don't think NYE is a great idea, Jan. 18th is pretty iffy with the weather, you have a better chance of decent weather in Feb. I think. I am not crazy about July 4 weddings, but that's just my opinion. I would go w/ May or Sept.

I don't think NYE is the greatest idea either....alot of people like to plan their own things for that....(at least I know I do)

But I think May and September would be GREAT!

Re: dates....

I'd go with may or september, but as you are choosing a lot of holidays remember that you might have a higher non-response because of that. Plus holiday weekends tend to be pricier?

Why not a Friday night on a non-holiday weekend? Then the only people who really need to take the day off are your bridal party, especially if you have an evening ceremony.

Well- I am a NEw Years Eve BRide and all of our close friends and family are so excited that we we all be together that night celebrating!!! We are inviting 140 people and I think the people who really care about the both of you wont mind what day it is. We are having two parties in one.

But beware of vendors charging more money because it is NEw YEars Eve. We really had to shop around.

Re: dates....

May 30 or Sept 5...these would be my favorites! Not everyone gets off for Martin Luther King Day. My friend got married the Sunday night before and many had to drag themselves out of bed to get to work the next day.

Re: dates....

Some people may not have off July 5th - something to keep in mind.

Re: dates....

I would caution you about 9/5 - my birthday is 9/6 and sometimes falls the day before labor day or on Labor day. I can tell you that it can be hard I very often have to go out other weekends if I want to celebrate with friends b/c EVERYONE seems to take their vacations that weekend.

I would be more likely to pick 12/31 - everyone will be in a party mood anyway - so it would only be an additional thing to celebrate, or I would stick to the non holiday weekends

Re: dates....

I would do the January or February date. Def not New year's Eve, because people always have their own plans for that. Other than that, I would consider Labor day Weekend. The summer holidays are tricky too. People always go on weekend trips on those weekends, I know I always do. JMO !

Re: dates....

Here's my rank:

9/5 - September is a wonderful month
7/4
2/15
1/18
12/31
5/30

Keep in mind, no matter what holiday or day of the week your wedding falls on, those people who will want to be there will be there!

I think that New Years Eve should be one of the last to choose from and same as Memorial Day weekend.

Re: dates....

I would stay away from New Years Eve. As for other holidays, the price isn't any cheaper than a normal Fri, Sat or Sun. We are having it the Friday of Labor Day weekend and we were looking at the night before Columbus day. Neither were cheaper than any other normal Fri or Sunday.

The cheapest times are off peak

I have a lot of family and friends coming from out of state and they are all VERY happy with it being a holiday weekend b/c they have extra time to stay The people from around here are not affected b/c the have the rest of the weekend

Re: dates....

not sure about those dates. the only one that i have off the day after is memorial day - the rest i'm working and so are most people (i would think).

what about a regular friday night??

Re: dates....

I am biased, as I am a Labor Day weekend bride (8/30/03). But I have found that if you give people enough notice, they will save time for the wedding. And being on LI, a lot of our out of town guests are coming down early Friday and making a beach weekend out of it. I think esp if you have out of town guests (as I do, FHs whole family) long weekends are perfect. IMO, its a LOT better than a Friday night or Sunday.

Re: dates....

well all of our guest will be local except for my brother. i don't like fridays unless it is a hoilday. i went to a fri wedding once and couldn't make it to the church because i was working. also i had to rush to make it to the reception. thanks so much for the opinions. they really help. i'm going to call around and find out what pricing is like for these dates.

Re: dates....

I think NYE is fun, most people don't have anything great planned and stay home 'because everyone's drunk' excuse. I LOVE July 4th, but I'll bet a lot of halls are already booked for it (I wanted it for this year, looked LAST year and day was taken everywhere!). May weddings are always nice.
