Dates
My FH and I originally were planning a Sept 26 2014 (friday night), but we are on a really tight budget and are hoping to get a better rate with a different date. We need to have it on the 26th (started dating 3/26/02, got engaged 6/26/12), so the 26th is very sentimental to us and we couldnt imagine celebrating our wedding anniv. on a different date. My thoughts are either..Wednesday November 26th (Thanksgiving eve)
Friday December 26th (day after Xmas)
Any opinions on these dates? (I'm hoping they would both be cheaper too...) I just don't know if anyone would be weird about having a wedding the night before Thanksgiving or day after Christmas..

I'm not sure how people are about holiday weddings...but I feel like the day after Christmas might be a little more of an inconvenience since people are probably already traveling for Christmas Eve, then Christmas. I know my family goes to four different places within the week of Christmas, so adding a wedding onto that week might not be ideal for some people, but if it's what you definitely want then you should do whatever makes you guys happy...my family complained about our wedding being a week after Christmas!I think the November one might be better, especially since most people I know love to party on Thanksgiving Eve. regardless and it's not as much of a monetary holiday. (Not buying excessive amounts of gifts or traveling as much as Christmas)
Hope everything works out! (PS I love the 26's! So cute)

Re: Dates
Thank you... That definately makes sense and I agree. It is probably even cheaper to do it on Thankgiving Eve, as its a Wednesday night. That would also mean having to change my colors (I had my heart set on lavendar BM's dresses...) oh well... i guess i could always just do a darker shade of purple

Yeah absolutely...I love that dark shade of purple! & you could still include lavender in the bouquets. :) Good luck with the date change! Do you know which venue you want yet?

So far I love the Watermill but on a Friday it was out of our budget. If we end up doing Thanksgiving Eve we could probably afford it though which is great! I'm still going to look at quite a few more places - Crest Hollow, Chateau La Mer, Venetian Yacht Club, Willow Creek and lots more. It's so overwelming but so fun and exciting too =)

Re: Dates
I think big holidays are hard all around. I agree that a lot of people travel during the week of Christmas, but I also know that a lot of people travel to see family on Thanksgiving also. But I do agree that Thanksgiving is less of a monetary holiday, so you might have better luck with Thanksgiving Eve.

So maybe its just me but I find this odd... I was quoted about $25.00 less pp from Larkfield Manor from Friday Sept 26 to Wed Nov 26 (thanksgiving Eve)... I emailed one of the other places we had looked at and really liked and asked how much less it would be if we were to change the date to the Wednesday, and she said that it would actually be more expensive bc its a popular day, but she would give us the same price as a Friday. Is it just me or is that crazy? Should i point out that another place would charge me $25.00 less per person? I feel that sometimes they try to take advantage...

Re: Dates
That's strange. If you're really interested in that 2nd place, I would let them know that you were quoted less from other places and even though you like them, they're a little out of budget. Sometimes they'll work with you by throwing in extras, but $25pp is a significant amount. I'm getting married the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend and my RH charged me a regular Sunday price, even though it is a popular day. It can't hurt to try though! When I was looking at photographers, I wasn't even trying to bargain...I simply told the ones who were too expensive that they were a little out of my budget and one of them immediately lowered their cost!

It all depends on the venue, but yes, sometimes a non-traditional day can be more expensive if it falls on the eve of a holiday or on an actual holiday because it's very popular. FH and I would like to getting married on July 3, 2014 (a Thursday) and because it's the eve of the 4th and extremely popular, some places had higher rates on that Thursday than they normally would, or we would be quoted a Friday rate.
You can absolutely bargain with the venue you like more, especially if Larkfield is essentially offering you the same package. That's a significant amount of money, and even if they don't lower it $25pp, they could lower it significantly enough to sway you. Or even throw in something extra for you!

Thats a good point. I also spoke with The Watermill who is charging me $20 less per person to switch from Friday to Wednesday Thanksgiving Eve, so it seems like more places will still give me the lower rate. It definately doesnt hurt to ask her though. Thanks =)

In my opinion I def think thanksgiving eve or the Friday after thanksgiving are better then day after christmas. But as far as keeping the 26th then just go with the date you feel most comfortable with. The people most important to you will be there. And DO NOT PAY THE PRICE THEY TELL YOU. You can talk them down, especially for those days, they should have special pricing. Do not be afraid to play hard ball!!! They want your money and you deserve to be happy. Pin the halls against each other to get a good price at your favorite one. And try to get as much as you can thrown in! We got so much for our dollar

Thanks... we are going to have around 100. I have decided to go with either Thankgiving Eve, or a Thursday in June - we have narrowed it down to our 2 fav's so I dont think i will get the prices any lower as we got great deals, but i will work to try to get them to throw more stuff in. =)

I am getting married at the Sand Castle on Thanksgiving Eve of this year and they actually pointed this day out to me. When I told them I wanted to do a winter wedding (because I figured it be cheapest) they were still out of my range. When she asked me how much I wanted to spend I told her and she told me the days she could do that price for. (the days basically were the day before/of a holiday that fell on a weekday out of their busy season) so she mentioned to me Thanksgiving Eve which we were hesitant about but if you think about it.. It is the biggest party night of the year. Everyone has off that whole weekend. So I would consider it. We love it, our venue is giving us left over food from our reception so for thanksgiving we are just all getting together and having left overs. So easy!

Personally I would think Thanksgiving Eve over the day after Christmas. Though I could see people like my mother trying to figure out how they could prepare for the thanksgiving, having tons of people in the house the next day & having to go to a wedding with so much to do. But I like the idea of a Thursday in June better. I personally do not like weddings on or around holidays. That being said, I wouldn't have one but it hasn't stopped me from going to one. The weather will be better in June too.Welcome New Vendors
