WOW! One week? Did you have to pick it up? Or do they hold it until the alterations are done?

is that your dress? How PRETTY! I am going to the one near the Smithhaven mall. I've heard though that once you take it out of the store, you can't bring it back, it that true?

Re: David's Bridal....
I went to the one in Long Island Ciy, I had a great experience. It was weird becuase I was in and out in less than 2 hrs. I knew which dress I wanted, tried it on, loved it and bought it. I also tried 5 other dresses but wasnt thrilled about them. My dress took 3 weeks to come in. They called me last week, but havent had time to pick it up. Also I was sold on the idea of being able to later exchange it if I loose so much weight that alterations would damage the look of the dress. So far I've lost 12lbs and 1 size, went from a 12 to a 10. So they told me as long as no alterations where done and they still had one in stock, they'd glasdly order and exchange. One piece of advice, If I was you, I would cancell my appointment tomorrow and go during a weeknight. I hear Saturdays, especially, it can get crazy. See my album for the pic of the dress. Good luck, and hope you find the dress of your dreams...like I did.

Good to know! Thank you for the info! Your dress is beautiful! Unfortunately, I work in the city and weeknights are not really convienent for me, but I have my maid of honor and my FMIL to help me dig in and find it! I hope! Keep your fingers crossed for me....

Yeah...most girls are so excited when their dress comes in...all I felt was anxiety about how I was going to store the thing for six months...
I had to go pick it up...but I am not having it altered there. I got them impression that they wanted me to come get it as soon as possible...not sure if they would store it for you.

I got my dress there. I had it within one week of ordering! You pick it up and take it home until alterations. They wouldn't let me keep it there (I am not havng them doing the alterations anyhow) so I do not think it is true that you can't bring it back once you've taken it out of the store.
Tomorrow it may be busy, but I went to one last week with my sister (for her BM dress)- Westbury, I think the most popular one - and it wasn't terrible. Go with a list of dresses you want to try on, maybe pictures from the website and model numbers. I went with just the model numbers and they said they would have preferred the pictures.
I would advise against getting alterations done there. They charge an arm and a leg, and I think you can probably get a better price at a local seamstress or tailor - and maybe better work.
I purchased my gown from them and purchased most of my accessories from them as well. In addition, I purchased my junior bridesmaids dresses and flower girl dresses from them as well. I received all items within a month's time. Once my order came in, they gave me a courtesy call and asked that I picked the items up. They are not too forceful with you picking them up and actually worked with me. Once you do pick up any gown or dress that you ordered from them, you will have to carry it back with you when you go for alterations. Also, when your wedding date approaches, you will have to carry them back to get steamed and pressed
I must warn you though, when you pick up the gown they do not provide a bag for it however they do have them available for $10.00.
I went to the David's Bridal in Queens (48th Street) and I must say, I had a wonderful experience. I have heard read some negative post on here but I guess I was lucky.
I must say though, I have gone on weekends and on weekdays and on weekends the customer service is not at its best, as they draw more crowds. With you going tomorrow, it may be hectic in the store, which may alter your experience.
Anyway, I wish you the best of luck and I hope you find your dream gown, as they do have a nice selection of gowns. By the way, I went with an Oleg Cassini gown.

I didn't personally get my gown from there but my friend did- she got it in less than 3 weeks- it depends if they have to order it or have it in stock.
I heard though that it does come fast! Also I heard (and ladies please correct me if I am wrong) that once it comes in they make you get altrerations right away and take the gown home... so if you are getting it from there make sure you have somewhere to store the gown.

I don't think they make alterations right away. I guess you could get this done -- but I got my dress over a year before my wedding - at the time I didn't even know where I was having it! - that's an awfully long time before a wedding to get alterations.
But you do have to make sure you have a place to store it. They do NOT store dresses there. My mom has mine in a closet. Storage tip: someone at the co. told her to keep the bag unzipped a bit and to keep a sheet wrapped loosely around it to keep it from getting damaged or 'turning.'

See...that's the only thing that scares me. I am in the process of losing weight, and I don't want it altered too early....yikes....what to do?

Don't they take that into consideration when you are getting the dress altered? My understanding is that you go back for a fitting right before the wedding, just in case you lose weight?
Unless I'm wrong, I thought that was the way it worked.

I think it's just crazy that you gotta keep bringing it back and forth for fittings and such.

You mean they wont even hold it for you while they are doing the alterations?
I'm so glad I'm not getting my alterations done there. I can give you the name of my seamstress if you want, but she is in Queens. I'm sure someone could recommend one closer to you.....
