Hi! I am getting married on 8/8/08 and I have not gotten a dress yet. I saw that David's Bridal is having their $99 sale in May. I wanted to know what your experiences were with going there at that time.
Are the dresses that are on sale the sample dresses? Are there really dresses that are $99 or is that a gimmick. Also, how expensive are the alterations? If i dont buy a 'sale' dress, is it too late for me to order a dress?
My wedding is very small, just FI, myself and our daughter and it is in Central Park, so i would like just a simple dress. I am also on a tight budget ($400 for the dress, accessories, and any alternations if needed).
Any feedback would be great.

I've been to David's Bridal-$99 sale three times at 3 different locations: in Westbury, New Jersey and the one in Queens. To be honest with you, I cannot find any bridal gown for $99.
The one that is $99 are the ones that have been there for so long....that no one ever bought. It's not even sample sale! Honestly, my experiences with $99 gown sale is horrible. I ended up purchasing my gown for more than $ 99.

If you don't get the sale dresses they can be more $$ also from what I was told (I didn't get my gown there but I know people who have) it only took about a month or two (sometimes less) for their gown to come in.
I think the ones that are on sale for the $99 are the ones that have been there for a while or being discontinued shortly after the sale.
Also you can buy it right off the rack as well.
As for alterations not sure how much they run depending on what you need done.

I bought my dress durring a $99 sale. Here's how it works...
There ARE dresses for $99, but not many. Then they have discounts on all the other dresses. I got $200 off of mine. Also, the way David's Bridal works is that the dress you try on...if it is your size, becomes 'your dress'. They do not order NEW dresses, often if they order you a dress, it comes from a differnt store that has that dress in stock. They will clean and fix anything that is wrong with the dress for you.
I was there yesterday to pick up my veil and I got some alterations prices...here is what I found out based on what I need done:
The Bustle is between $35 & $50 plus either $5-7 for each additional loop
To adujust the shoulders starts at $20 Hem starts at $30 To take it in is from $20-50

there are a few that are $99 but they are all on sale mine was $649 on sale for $574 the ones that are #$9 or even $199 are older ones most likely winter dresses I didn't see anything I liked at all in the sale section but you might get lucky

If you're looking for something cheaper, David's is definately the way to go. I bought my dress there but it was $1000. They have dresses as cheap as $300 which I'm sure they reduce further for the $99 sale.

they do have some dresses even though there are only a few- go the first day of the sale! I bought my dress that weekend and even though I did not buy a 99 dollar on, I got like 200 bucks off of mine, they have great sales all around. good luck!

I had a good experience at Davids Bridal in Lake Grove, it was the 2nd place I visited and got my dress righ then..They have awesome sales, my dress is exactly what i wanted, its light gold, and I only payed $288 for it, off the rack & that didnt bother me at all....its beautiful and im only gonna wear it once.

I know this sounds funny but I also remember hearing that Target even carries a wedding gown line too now.
Here's the link- I think the only bad thing might be that you'd have to order online
Also try Estelle's Dressy Dresses too- they might have some at a bargain.

I got mine for $200 off but i did not need any alterations on my dress so im not sure about that for pricing.

I think you have some other options including RK Bridal in NYC. If you find a dress for less on the internet, they will beat that price by 5% if you do the 'No frills' program which means you will get the alterations somewhere else. Try Jcrew, Nicole Miller (they sell her white dresses at lord and taylor and nordstrom) Ann Taylor Celebrations.

Noticed that you are on a tight budget - I was just on the website for White House Black Market yesterday, and they have wedding dresses for under $300. Nothing fancy, but will probably be great for a casual wedding in the height of summer!
Lord and taylor also has a website section under dresses for wedding dresses, only a few choices but they are also on the cheaper side.

David's has dresses there all the time for $299 and $399. I tried on some gorgeous ones at that price point. So even if you don't get a $99 dress, you can find dresses there in your price range.
And I do believe that David's DOES order dresses. I got an oleg cassini there, tried it on in the same size I ordered. They didn't tell me to take the one I tried on home, they ordered me a new one.
