I read/heard alot of negative things about the alterations dept. at David's Bridal (using the Westbury store), but all that I needed 'altered' was a bustle so I figured I would use them since I got my dress there.
Went ~3 weeks ago and everything was perfectly fine, the woman that helped me with the bustle was very sweet and helpful.
Went today to pick up the dress. I called the store yesterday and asked the woman if I needed to make an appointment to come in and try it on/make sure the bustle was okay and then take it home. She told me 'No, come in anytime after 1pm. You don't need an appointment b/c it's already done you can just try it on'
Showed up today at like 1:01. The same woman I spoke with yesterday says, 'you can't stay here now. Leave and come back in an hour and a half I don't want you sitting around here staring at me until I have time for you'. We exchanged some choice words and my mom and I decided to go do some shopping and return at 2:30 (the exact time she told us to come back.
Return at 2:30 on the dot. No alterations lady to be found. Turns out she 'swiped out' for her 30 minute lunch break at 2:29. There was another bride there who had a 2:30 SCHEDULED appt. and was told 'I'm going to lunch, looks like I will see you at 3' and she walked out of the store!
So the 2 of us and our moms were freaking out and talking to the manager about how rude and unprofessional she was. And waited until 3pm.
She returned at 3pm and ended up being pretty nice to both of us, but REFUSED to apologize. I asked her some other questions about bringing the dress back to be steamed etc and she gave us all WRONG information (we re-asked the manager before leaving the store).
So, beware of the alterations dept. the negative things you have heard are probably true.

I'm sorry about your ordeal. I bought my dress from that location but I'm probably not going to get it done there.

It stinks that you had to go through that!!! How rude!!!! I bought my dress at the Long Island City store and I work in Garden City. Thought it was convenient. I won't be going there for my alterations.

I am so sorry to hear about the disgusting treatment you received. Thankfully my dress doesn't need alterations and if it did I would probably have them done elsewhere based on the reviews. The only thing I'll probably allow them to do is steam my dress (it's included in the price) but we'll see. From the horror stories regarding alterations, I may be hesistant to trust them with even this simple task.

I have to deal with them next week with my cousins wedding and BM dress. My sister said we are just getting the dresses there and are going to alter them elsewhre since they had problems with DB for her brothers wedding a year ago in the Lake Grove store.

I was actually fortunate to have a very attentive consultant. I'm just very leary of their alterations departments. The only reason I even considered DB in the first place is because they truly do have beautiful dresses.

Re: David's Bridal Alterations-RANT (long)
I had a great experience dress shopping there and I found so many dresses that were beautiful.
It's the alterations dept. that kills the place. And they are managed by someone different than the store and their manager isn't 'on site' all the time, so when things like this happen you have no one to speak to about it.

I don't know if this is normal or not, I've only been in one wedding before, but I got my BM dress in early 2008 from that store and they didn't even give me the chance to have my dress altered. They were just like here's your dress... have a nice day... and left. And I was the ONLY one int he store when I went to pick it up cause it was like.. the middle of a Tuesday. Oooooookay

I would see if the massapequa store would be willing to steam the dress etc. My cousin purchased her dress from the Westbury store. She had an bad experience with getting sleeves added ...she went to the Massapequa store and the manger was able to get the correct sleeve from Texas and the service and alterations at Massapequa were night and day HTH

My sis and I were just bridesmaids in our bro’s wedding and had our alterations done there. The hook and eye on the back of her dress was put in wrong and broke as soon as we zipped her up. I bought my wedding dress there and was going to get my alterations done there, but now am scared too.

Where can I go besides them? I thought I would have my dress altered where I got my bridesmade dresses, but they won't do it there.
