so my MOH went to get her alterations done yesterday at David's Bridal (where the dress was purchased) and was charged more for alterations than the dress itself cost!
what's even more annoying is that $45 of that was to bring the dress in since it was too large ... but she only ordered a size up from her actual size per the sales person's suggestion (they told her the sample dresses get worn a lot so they are stretched)
she was angry ... but i'm even more angry ... it's like they lied to her just so that they'd get more money out of her

I would pitch a fit. If the salesperson told her to get a certain size, they should be responsible if it is wrong.

i would too but she didn't feel like dealing with it (she didn't want me to deal with it either) and already paid them ... so i think it's too late now

Come to think of it, they encouraged ALL my BM's to get bigger dresses. I am sure its just so that they can rape them on the alterations fees!!!! Blah!

Well they make you come get the dress as soon as its in... so theres no guarantee that you will go back to them for alterations... i think its just easier to fit a dress thats too big rather than one thats too small

She didn't say the exact number, just that alterations were more than the dress itself (which was $100) ...

its true. but i think DB and Macys are pretty much notorious for ordering the size up. I had to fight with macys because my measurements were exactly one size and they wanted to go up to the next size. i know i wasnt going to fluctuiate in weight so why do it? i got the dress in my real size and ddint need alterations TG. i would go somewhere else to get the alterations though.

Re: David's Bridal rant
I wasn't sure of my size when I went there and I guessed between 2 and 4. They had me try on size 6 dresses that were huge on me. When I found a dress they did not have it in the size 4 for me to try so they found a similar dress in a 4. It fit well other than being too long. So after a bit of arguing they 'allowed' me to order the size 4. When it came in it was still huge!! I probably should have ordered the 2!! So now they have to take it in a lot, reshape the top of the dress, and hem the bottom. $205 later for a $300 dress!!

Macy's I believe it... they also oversize their dresses... a 8 is a 12 and a 12 is a 16... they also charge more if you are over a 16 i belive... 2 of my sisters had to order 18 & 20... and they had to pay more...
