David's Bridal - The Source Mall vs. the one in NYC
I don't want to spend a lot on my dress; at the reception I will be changing into an Indian lehnga which will already be so I'm trying to keep the cost down - a LOT - on my traditional bridal gown.
So far, I'm looking into David's Bridal, Alfred Angelo, and a couple of Jessica McClintock dresses that are
Anyway, I'm suppossed to go with my best friend soon to try on dresses...anyone have any input on the David's Bridal in the Souce Mall vs. the new big one that opened in downtown NYC?
(The big plus about the one in the Source is it's not far from Roosevelt Field, which has a Jessica McClintock store; there isn't a JMC store in Manhattan.)
TIA!

i would do my best to avoid the one at the source mall. i can only tell you my own personal experiences there.
first time i went there, my friend had a 7pm appt to try on dresses. they did not see her until nearly 8pm. she gave them the style numbers and 30 min later, the woman who was 'helping' us still hadn't brought the dresses out, and then had no reason why she didn't get them, but said it would be another few minutes. instead, we just left. we waited 90 min and got absolutely nothing accomplished.
2nd time i had to go there was just to pick up a pair of shoes for another friend. she called the store, let them know i would be picking them up, and she told them all i had to do was wait on line, and i'd be able to get them. well, they made me sign in and wait even after i explained why i was there. my friend had to call them again, then about 20 min later they let me finally take the shoes. i should have been in and out in 5 minutes.
the third time was actually an OK experience. i bought my faux fur wrap from there. i was in and out in 10 minutes. it was also a tues morning, right when they opened, so that could be why.
overall, from my experiences and other peoples experiences, the customer service in that particular store is just awful. if you go during an off time you will probably have better luck, but if you go on the weekends, be prepared to wait a LONG time, and even get attitude from some of the staff.

Re: David's Bridal - The Source Mall vs. the one in NYC
my experience @ the davids bridal in the city was AWFUL. it could have just been the consultant i had but i had a horrible time there. when i got there, the lady looked @ my wedding date and asked me why i was there so early and to come back when i was 'ready'. mind you, this was when my wedding was already less than a year away. anyhow, since i had already gone all the way over there, i decided to just suck it up and look around so i told her i was ready now (which i was!) so i started looking around. she wouldn't let me try on some of the dresses that i wanted b/c they werent the right size but i've never tried on a sample that was my size! very confusing. so after we picked out a few dresses, i went to go try them on and she pretty much vanished so my sis helped me. i didn't find anything i liked so we started trying on BM dresses instead and while we were doing that, we saw that the lady reappeared and this time she was helping another bride. she seemed super helpful with him though, maybe she thought he was more 'ready'? we finished trying on everything we selected and just left.

I say go to the one at the Source Mall. I got my dress from the one in the city and everything was fine when I ordered it but when I went to pick it up I really did not have a good experience. Never never go there on a Saturday.

I guess it's a mixture of both good and bad for each DB store. It really all depends on who you get to help you. The person who helped me when I bought my dress was very friendly; but I don't think she works there anymore.

The one in the source is really good. They had great customer service and were very helpful. The lady was slightly pushy, but other than that- no problems!

Such varying opinions...I think I'll check out both of them. Once I get over the 'I need someone with me when I try on dresses' thing, getting to the one in the city is super easy for me. Phew.
Thanks everyone for your advice and detailed experiences
