day-after brunch?

day-after brunch?

how many people are having a brunch the day after their wedding?

FH and I were going over our budget last night and realized we're about to go platinum ... and it really freaked me out

we originally booked a banquet hall in our hotel for a sunday brunch the day after our wedding. FH's intention was to invite everyone staying over at the hotel to the brunch (our family, bridal party, out of town guests, and anyone staying over so they dont have to drink and drive).

however, this could be a TON of people... and the brunch is about $35 per person. I estimated it could cost around $3k.

we disagreed over whether it was appropriate to limit the number of invitees. i thought it was ok to only invite family and bridal party, FH thought it was rude. so now we're considering scrapping the whole thing to save a little money and just telling people casually to meet us at the restaurants (although I really think this isn't going to fly with my mom and FMIL).

what is everyone's thoughts on this?

we're not having one. You don't have to do anything you can't afford!

I'm doing one, but you don't HAVE to do it. It's whatever you and FH want and/or can afford.

We are inviting anyone who stays at the hotel to join us for breakfast at the hotel which runs from 7-11am (I am sure me and FH won't be there until 830/9 tho!, LOL). Its actually only $10 pp at our hotel so we were lucky!

This was a concern of ours as well. To do it in our hotel would have been about 35$ per person and it would be about that much to do it at area restaurants - and that seems to kind of defeat the purpose if people have to leave the hotel and go to another destination. At this point I think we are leaning toward doing a brunch at my parents' house, which is also not ideal because I feel bad that they are going to have to worry about hosting guests the day after the wedding. It would be casual, but still. This probably doesn't help you at all - but we are having similar conerns.

I don't see how you could invite some and not all. I feel your pain - FH just wants to invite EVERYONE, whether they stay at the hotel or not.

We are not having a formal brunch but breakfast at our hotel is complementary. If you can't afford it then that is okay. It is not required.

That's what we're doing, but my mom doesn't know it yet...

We're probably going to limit it to immediate family. Nothing formal.

i would love to but i don't know if we'll be able to afford it, and i don't think anyone from fh's family would come... they are big party people and with our reception ending at 12:30am, it's a pretty much 100% guarantee that they'll all go back to his parents' house and party all night...lol

I totally understand what you are dealing with - its not so much a matter of whether you can afford it, but after spending SO much money on the wedding, its like, when is enough enough?? I am having a hard time with this too. We can commiserate.

honestly you are spending enough money, i am sure they won't mind if they have to pay for their own breakfasts. not everyone can afford to do a brunch!

I'm not sure what hotel you are staying at but some of the places we looked had a voucher option. Instead of having a private room for a brunch - they provide vouchers for you to give to guests. This tended to be a little less expensive than a private party. Also, you only have to pay for the people that hand in the voucher - so if people decide to go elsewhere it wouldn't matter. That being said - I think haveing some sort of breakfast is a nice thing - but totally not necessary and I don't think guests expect it.

We are def on the same page with this. I keep saying, it's ok to splurge on 'x', I'll save on 'y' - and then when it comes time for 'y', there are no savings in sight. Hahaha. I really am no help.

I think if you do it, you need to extend the invite to all of your guests at the hotel. You do not need to invite anyone who is not staying at the hotel. Our hotel is charging the same price (ish) but our parents are co-hosting this event.
