day-after brunch?

Original post by pipermaru

how many people are having a brunch the day after their wedding?

FH and I were going over our budget last night and realized we're about to go platinum ... and it really freaked me out

we originally booked a banquet hall in our hotel for a sunday brunch the day after our wedding. FH's intention was to invite everyone staying over at the hotel to the brunch (our family, bridal party, out of town guests, and anyone staying over so they dont have to drink and drive).

however, this could be a TON of people... and the brunch is about $35 per person. I estimated it could cost around $3k.

we disagreed over whether it was appropriate to limit the number of invitees. i thought it was ok to only invite family and bridal party, FH thought it was rude. so now we're considering scrapping the whole thing to save a little money and just telling people casually to meet us at the restaurants (although I really think this isn't going to fly with my mom and FMIL).

what is everyone's thoughts on this?

Re: day-after brunch?

We're having one and are probably extending an invite to hotel guests, as well as those that live in the area. We have a per person fee and a room fee, so it's certainly not cheap, but we just wanted to have a fun farewell for our guests.

But to answer your original question, if you are going to have one, I think it's important to invite everyone staying at the hotel. I stayed over at a friend's wedding, and was insulted that I wasn't invited to the brunch. Especially because the room wasn't cheap, and the hotel didn't offer a brunch. Just my opinion though.

We didn't do anything, we were flying to our HM. Some friends did, but they didn't show up til the very end and they looked really tired. Reality is, you can plan a brunch, but is that really the way you want to spend your first morning as husband and wife? People can feed themselves, you should be ordering room service!

We're not doing it. We're only having very few stay at the hotel. My sister did it for hers, but she had more guests staying. We didn't stay, but we came all the way back the next morning to go (on like 3 hours of sleep, ugh). My only concern is that the people staying in the hotel are my sister, and family that stayed for her wedding and got the brunch...so hope they don't expect it haha. But we're not staying in the hotel, so a little different.

We're having 1 afterwards but we're not paying for it. My parents were HUGE on doing this which is why they are paying for it. If we had to pay ourselves, we probably wouldn't have one at all.

I honestly have yet to be at a wedding (one where I am either a close family member or actually in the WP) where there was a brunch the day after. I never even knew people did this until I came on here.

I think if towards the end we can afford to do so, we may do something for the WP and close family, just don't know what.

We had a brunch for all our guest. All our guest wehre OTT.
Everyone loved it. I enjoyed it so much. It gave everyone chase to hang out to spend some some time together.
My father gave his speech at the brunch. He was to nervous on the wedding day.
We paid about 15 not including tip and tax. Plus we supplied our own champagne.
I say go for it if you can.

In a perfect world, we'd be doing one. Unfortunately we live in the real world and can't afford it! We'll have some OOT guests at our house anyway, so maybe if it's nice we'll get lots of bagels and cold cuts and have a little shindig in the backyard!

I would def consider shopping around for a more affordable location to have the brunch! 35$pp is alot but hopefully somthing else could work...

We did a brunch at my parents house the day after. We had our OOT guests and bridal party, and whoever wanted to come by. We had it catered by Bagel Boss Roslyn. It was about $250 when all was said and done. We got a HUGE spread of egg salad, tuna sald, veggie salads, bean salad, salmon salad. Then Bagels and Cream cheese, Lox, and fruit salads. It was a huge hit and a must-do for us! Do what you can! We could NOT have afforded a brunch at $35 per person, that's for sure!

we're not having one. You don't have to do anything you can't afford!

Ditto. you went to my wedding, isnt that good enough?

listen when its all said and done, its just you and your DH..... im not creating bills to impress... if you can afford, GO FOR IT! if $$ is a little tight, save your $$ for the real expenses that will await all of us...

you have to do what you can afford. but if you do go through with it, i wouldnt restrict who you invite, it should be all guests that are staying.

the hotel we are staying at has a free complimentary breakfast. so we are either doing that or seeing where we stand with $$$ and doing a sit down thing.

Re: day-after brunch?

We're probably having a catered dinner the night before and no breakfast the day after.

The voucher idea someone mentioned sounds like a good idea. I don't think anyone expects it, so I wouldn't worry esp if it's not in the budget.

I think you have to do an all-or-none in terms of inviting. It wouldn't be right to invite some and not others. I don't see what's wrong with meeting up in the hotel restaurants though. I'm not sure at what point weddings turned into these 3-day-long events! People are staying at the hotel for convenience, and can meet at a hotel restaurant for a quick hello/meal the morning after. No need to provide for their every moment!

Our hotel offers a breakfast the next day for any guest staying there that night. Its even in a private room. Maybe you can do something like this?

Re: day-after brunch?

my mom is hosting a casual day-after brunch for us at her house. She is having it catered from a bagel place. Not everyone is being invited - but the OOT guests and the BP are as well as immediate family.
