day-of advice...

day-of advice...

so i was having coffee with a friend who just got married and she said so many things came up on the day of her wedding that she wished she would have asked questions about earlier...

like her photographer riding in the limo with her, etc...

i was wondering for married girls, what questions do you wish you would have asked vendors and or other people for the day of that you regret not asking?

I can't really think of anything I wish I would have asked the vendors. I do wish that I would have had someone give me a heads up when there was maybe an hour left to go to the reception. The day went so quickly and I couldn't believe it when the band announced it was the last song. There were people I would have liked to have danced with more, etc., but the time got away from me.

Re: day-of advice...

I wish I would have been more specific with my must-take list for photography, and I wish I would have asked my sister's friend to do my hair and makeup instead of hiring the artist I did. That's really all...

I wish I would have appointed one BM to be the hair/mu look out and pull my arse aside and fix me up if my hair/mu started to look like h3ll! My pics towards the end of the night look hideous since my hair was acting up!

I wish I would have been a little bit more on top of my photogs. I gave them a list the night before the wedding of must-takes but they forgot a few.

I wish I would have sat down for at least 5 min w DH at our table and just watch everything going on and everyone having fun.

I wish I would have had a chance to eat my desert that I was so looking forward to! Instead it melted and was taken away before I could touch it!

Re: day-of advice...

I have some more. For my sister's wedding, she gave a must-take list to her photographer. I asked her to give me a copy, as well, but she never did. The day of her wedding, she was too distracted to keep track of whether the photographer was taking all of the pictures she wanted and he missed quite a few. So, my advice would be to make sure a trusted family member or BM is aware of what's on your must take list to help make sure all of those pics are, in fact, taken.

Also, don't let anybody make you feel rushed. The first words my sister's photog said to her were 'Leslie, we're running a little late, so we need to make up some time.' That got her so flustered that it really affected her for the rest of the day. Let's face it -- unless we're talking being hours behind schedule -- the ceremony and other festivities are not going to get started without the bride!

The must-take photo list is a big one. I wish I had done that. I absolutely love my pictures but there are some pictures I wished we got. I stupidly thought I'd remember that day but of course I didn't.

Make sure you have a timeline for the day of and someone to make sure your on time for everything..I wish I had someone like that for that morning.

I also wish I had remembered some of those must take shots and told the photog's even though I gave them the list some were missed.

If you have things that are to be setup a certain way have a picture of the way u want it setup so the person knows.

Also have a list of everything you are bringing to the RH

Have a person who reminds you to put on gloss and powder cause u sweat

Re: day-of advice...

I was pretty lucky and had no flubs the day of but some words of advice I would give are to try not to let the day slip by - its inevitable but savor every moment! I felt like my reception flew by so like an earlier poster a good idea would be to have someone tell you when you have one hour left so that you make sure you do everything you want before the night is over. Also, DH and I did not make our rounds @ the reception - we refused to! If you could go to your CH then do so..this is what we did and tried our best to say as many hellos as possible (but make sure you eat too - we didn't get to). My MOH actually said during her speech that if anyone wanted to see us they would have to come to us b/c we would be out on the dancefloor the whole night!! I was so happy she said this b/c that is what we did - we spent way too much $$ not to.

Try to get your 'dances' out of the way if possible - like the father daughter and any others. Our DJ kind of waited to do this which allowed us to dance alot before but then after the 'dances' we had limited time for everyone to dance again - I felt like the timing was off a bit. This could have been bc my time frame was out of sorts anyway since the whole day went so fast!!

Also, I would be confident in your photog. I requested a final appt with Duet which they don't typically do. I used the time to go over my must take list in person with my actual photog. I didn't want to have to worry about any of this the day of. They got pretty much all the photos we wanted. I would make sure you leave yourself plenty of time for photos. I started rushing my photog bc I began seeing guests arrive for CH and I started panicing. I wanted to have the chance to go to the bridal suite to freshen up after pics - I did do this but was a little late to CH b/c we could have used a little more time in between the ceremony and the CH. We had 3 hrs. which you would think would be plenty but you'd be surprised at how time flies.

Do a walk through of the banquet hall to make sure everything is how you want it and more importantly to see it before it gets mangled with people! It was one of the best moments to do this with DH...our DJ even allowed us a 'practice' first dance which was awesome. Our photg got some great photos during that time!

Make copies of all your contracts/contact #s or lists you made for the DJ etc and give to your MOH in case of anything. I left her in charge of all of that and it was a big help.

Make sure you have an emergency kit! Mine came in handy as I needed a bandaid at the end of the night. Also, the curling iron came in handy to fix my fallen curls after beach photos.

Last but not least, make sure you and DH go in a corner somewhere and take it all in for just 5 minutes bc before you know if itll be over!

Re: day-of advice...

1) Come up with a really thorough must-take list!

2) Take a quick peak at your hall before the reception begins so that any last minute tweaks can be made before guests are allowed in.

3) Insist on buying the same shade of lipstick/lip gloss/lip liner used by your m/u artist.

Re: day-of advice...

I definitely would have been more on top of my photogs for my must take list. They got every single one except for 4 pics I wanted, but those were the 4 of the most important ones (and to this day I'm still hearing about it from my mother).

That being said, prioritize. If things are going wrong or you're stressing out, make sure you bother about the things are are truly important and will matter later rather than freaking out about every little thing. People probably won't notice every little detail, but your mother will yell at you for not having a family portrait taken until the day she dies.

And if you do care about the little details, get a BM to worry about it instead.

Re: day-of advice...

Photog - Take more candid pix of guests
Video - Don't just video the dance floor people - not everyone dances.....
Food Menu - I had a 'warm dessert', but when it was served it wasn't.......= yuk.
CH - not enough tables to sit = drink in one hand, plate in other = unhappy guests.
