So, I never even thought about getting a wedding planner or DOC - my fiancee and I kind of pride ourselves on being able to take care of everything on our own. However, the more I'm reading about DOC's, the more I'm wondering if it's worth it, just so that we don't have to worry about anything that day! I tend to worry a bit too much about the guests and not enough about myself, might be nice to have someone else do the worrying. Anyway, I'm wondering if a Day of Coord. is necessary, or can the Maitre'd and Attendant handle these issues. I'm getting married at East Wind, May 28, 2006. Anyone use a DOC there, or does anyone recommend anyone? Wow, that was the longest post I've ever done!
Thanks,
ilana

Re: Day Of Coordinator
I think once you have a great relationship with your banquet manager and your attendants, I feel a DOC is not worth the money.

Re: Day Of Coordinator
I think having a DOC makes the day SOOOO much less stressful. I'm a really organized person and very capable, but on my wedding day, the only thing I wanted to think about was having a great time with my husband. Not last minute vendor questions, not checking on whether certain things were happening, not tipping people, etc. Also, my DOC (Elaine Deluca) was awesome at fixing every single problem that arose that night. There's more info in my REVIEW

Re: Day Of Coordinator
I'm torn on this too. My mom really wants one, just because she is such a nervous person and is going to drive herself nuts making sure that everything is going smoothly. My dad, on the other hand, thinks they are unnecessary and that the maitre 'd and catering manager should be able to handle everything.
But, for nothing else, I think it may be worth it for me just so that my mom has a little piece of mind.

This is something I am going to look into now. I just don't want added stress on top of my nervousness.

Re: Day Of Coordinator
I never even knew DOCs existed before I started planning my wedding. As soon as I heard what they do, I knew I had to have one to oversee our day. I don't want to have to worry about extra guests showing up or candles not being lit, or favors not placed in the right place. It's a service I'm willing to pay for. If you have the $ in your budget, I say go for it. It will definitely give you peace of mind.

That alone is reason to hire one.
I've said it a million times, if I could go back and hire a DOC, I WOULD. Not having one quite possibly was the worst part of my day.

Re: Day Of Coordinator
IMO, if you have a lot of details and a big wedding, it might not be a bad idea.

I am getting married at east wind, i am having a DOC...not only is she there to make sure my day is as perfect as it can be , she has been helping me out already with tons of questions... giving advice, helping me find things, ideas as to who to call for vendors... she is so worth the $$$

Re: Day Of Coordinator
I plan to get one because I've been to weddings where the wedding seemed unorganized. It was obvious the ceremony wasn't rehearsed. I promised myself that when I got married, it would flow better. That comes with help aka DOC!

Ditto. Although my ceremony is not at East Wind, just the reception. As far as I'm concerned, the maitre d' and the banquet manager are completely capable of managing the catering staff, but it is not their job to have a back up copy of my must play and do not play list for the DJ (not that Vinny would ever forget to bring it with him, but just in case his dog eats it ), nor is it their job to make sure the table cameras are used, or the guest book is signed, etc. I could go on and on, but you get my point. On the other hand, that is part of what the DOC will do during the course of the day.

I think it's totally worth it!! I would recommend mine, but we're date twins (and hall twins) so I think she's booked for that day

Maybe it's just me, but I like to be control of everything. I think I would worry that the DOC would forget something.

The Maitre'd will be supervising the waitstaff, the Bridal attendant is supposed to get you what you need, take care of you and FH personally. The DOC keeps everyone in line and makes the day run smoothly.
