So, I never even thought about getting a wedding planner or DOC - my fiancee and I kind of pride ourselves on being able to take care of everything on our own. However, the more I'm reading about DOC's, the more I'm wondering if it's worth it, just so that we don't have to worry about anything that day! I tend to worry a bit too much about the guests and not enough about myself, might be nice to have someone else do the worrying. Anyway, I'm wondering if a Day of Coord. is necessary, or can the Maitre'd and Attendant handle these issues. I'm getting married at East Wind, May 28, 2006. Anyone use a DOC there, or does anyone recommend anyone? Wow, that was the longest post I've ever done!
Thanks,
ilana

Re: Day Of Coordinator
We are using a DOC as well. She's been so much help to us. Even getting us lower prices from vendors. She works with The Interfaith Union clergy on LIW's

I don't know... I guess I feel people spend enough money on their weddings...why spend MORE money for someone to see how you've spent the rest of your money... I think if you have a good relationship already with your vendors and you've stated CLEARLY what you want and expect the day of, you should be fine. You could also have a friend, perhaps maybe someone that couldn't be a part of your bridal party or whatever, but you want to include them in your wedding could help with small tasks... like making sure the men have their bouitennaires, the programs are being handed out, flowers are cleared out of the church, out-of towners know where they are going, etc. I don't know... I think I would rather do everything myself... and maybe recruit a friend or family member the day of to help with little details. I am not stressing out over the wedding..whatever happens, happens. call me crazy but sometimes you cant' control everything.

If you have the money, what it all comes down to is how you handle stress. I tend to ruminate and worry, so paying someone to do the worrying for me is totally worth it. If you're the type of person who likes to be in more control and handle things hands on, then having a DOC might be even more stressful. If you can, meet w/ one or two and get a feel for what they do - then decide what you want to do

You're right, you can't control everything, and as much as I like to be in control, there are just some issues I don't want any single guest (be it friend or family member) to have to deal with. For example, and I realize this is unique to my wedding, no one who is a guest should be attached to their cell phone in case the chief of police calls regarding parking.
My programs are being handed out by my ushers, but my decorations at the ceremony are supposed to be put up by a friend the day of the wedding because it's on the water and can't be done the day before. If she fails to show up at the last minute for whatever unknown reason, who is going to do that??? ME??? I think not! And I'm certainly not going to send a member of my bridal party to do it at the last minute. But, my DOC will check and make sure it is done, and if it's not, I won't even know about it, because I am confident she will handle it. This to me translates into NO STRESS for me the day of.

How much does one of those cost? What exactly do they do?
