day or evening wedding?

Who is having a day or evening wedding? I heard from one place it's cheaper to have it during the day is that true? Also how far would you be willing to travel for a wedding? I am having a lot of fights with my parents over the reception being an hour away from our house.
Thanks!!

Re: day or evening wedding?

I am having an afternoon ceremony but an evening reception...

i have heard it is cheaper for a day wedding, but to be honest i didnt get prices for it, so i dont know

as far as traveling... my hall is 45 min away from church/house and i have people coming from CT

BUT they can take ferry over and it will be about 25-30 minutes

I say, if they want to be there THEY WILL...
people may say i am being selfish- but I really wanted reception at east wind, yes it may be a bit far out on the island, but if people want to go and i am sure not too many people will complain then they will come.. if not oh well i dont want them there anyway

I have traveled for weddings before, its life... you either do it cause you want to or you could kindly decline the invite!

I'm getting married at Villa Lombardis on a Sunday at 11:30am. Our reception is from 12-5pm.
I prefer day weddings, so I wasnt really interested in a night wedding. I can tell you that a Sunday afternoon wedding was about $10-$15 a person cheaper than a Saturday afternoon. Also, once you went to nights, you went up about $40 more per person.

When I was looking for halls, the day receptions were significantly cheaper than the evening receptions, especially Sunday afternoons.

All the halls I went to quoted me cheaper prices for the day. Most places quoted cheaper prices for the weekday/weeknights as opposed to the weekends.

Was hoping for Saturday night but going with Monday night instead (before a holiday).

we are doing day...saved alot of $$$!! plus we are getting married right overlooking the hudson river, and our room is all windows- we want to see the views!!

we are getting married at west point, which is about 1 hour 45 mins from here and 1 1/2 hours from my parents- it is in between the two. plus it is a hotel so we are trying to make it easy for everyone!

Were having a Sunday afternoon wedding. We didn't want to pay the super high cost of a Saturday night wedding and didn't want to do it on Friday.

My whole wedding is 4 hours away from my apartment! We're getting married out of state. We also have a lot of OOT guests, so a day wedding wouldn't work for us because then people would have to stay over 2 nights. But, a day wedding is nice if everyone is from the same area. It is cheaper, and sometimes there are lower minimums. Russo's on the Bay was like that.

We're having a day wedding. Sunday - 11am ceremony. CH 11:30-1. Recept 1-5. We both wanted a day wedding because the theme is Autumn and since we're having it at the WM we wanted people to be able to enjoy the grounds and see the beautiful trees, etc. Day was very important to us. We decided on Sunday because a majority of the people coming work on Saturday.

ETA: Oh and regarding the traveling...I've traveled hours to go to friends weddings. If it's important to be there....people will travel all day!

OUrs is SUnday day. Daytime is significantly cheaper than nighttime, especially Sat. night.
I plan on still partying after the reception is over at 5:30!!

Most of FH's guest are from OOT, so they will have to travel for at least 4 hours to get here, I will be blocking rooms at a hotel for them

I had an afternoon ceremony and an evening reception. Everything I've heard says that daytime/afternoon weddings and receptions are less expensive.

We are having a Sunday evening wedding...CH 5:30-6:30..reception is 6:30-10:30 and Vianaese Hour is 10:30-11:30...

I would of rather had a Saturday night..but my hall didnt have any Saturday nights available for the month FH and I wanted (october) so we decided on a Sunday evening...The price wasnt much of a difference...

Re: day or evening wedding?

Hi,

I am having a day reception from 1-6 on a Saturday! I wanted to get married on Saturday but I could not afford the the $$ prices. The difference was $45. It really works out for me pics from 9-10:30, ceremony at 11:30, reception from 1-6!
Then leave for honeymoon next morning at 8am!

My advice is go to wedding halls and ask for day and night prices during the year. See what works in your budget.

We are having ours on a friday at 7:30pm.
As far as location we made it close enough for FI mom to feel comfortable away from the house becuase she has lung cancer and her breathing gets shallow fast and sometimes she gets very weak and can't stand ...we are praying for a good day for her.

Re: day or evening wedding?

We are having a Sunday twilight wedding which ties Saturday night in cost because we are precluding our venue from booking anything else that day. So, we have the place for the entire day and night to ourselves.

I'm having a Sunday night wedding on a holiday weekend (pricing just like a normal saturday night).

Booking a reception during the day will definitely save you $$$.

Giorgio's is about an hour away from where I live and about 45 minutes from where my parents and family lives. We have limo rides there and back for both sets of parents, so they don't care. As far as family if they want to be there, they will make the trip out east. I haven't gotten one complain yet. Most of them are excited to have a scenic wedding, rather than something on main road in Nassau. The FH family is all traveling from Boston, so the distance doesn't matter.

You haven't convinced your parents to book Giorgio's yet? Where would they rather you book?

Good Luck and FM me with any questions.
