This is a common topic addressed on these boards, thought some of you might want to read it:
DEAR ABBY: I am being married in three months. Now I am wondering what the process is for letting friends and family know where we are registered. I read somewhere that it is not appropriate to include this information on the invitation. Is this true? -- POLLY IN POCATELLO, IDAHO DEAR POLLY: Yes, it's true. And you probably read it in my column. This is how the information should properly be shared:
1. The invitations are sent out.
2. When the RSVP cards are returned, those who plan on attending should contact you or your fiance and ask where you are registered.
3. At that time, the information should be transmitted verbally.
4. Because many couples set up Web pages with all the information about the wedding -- including where they are registered -- prospective guests can be referred to the Web page.

thanks good to know
but i think that so many people are used to jsut getting those cards in the invites with bridal showers that people dont even care anymore. I dont think its tacky at all!!!
And i dont know too many people who buy a gift for a wedding. Ususally just a few people who cant attend or who are really strapped for cash

Re: Dear Abby
I think nowdays people assume that youre registered and expect the little card w/the shower invite. As for guests that come to my wedding with a gift in hand instead of a card with cash, I'm sending them away at the door and telling them to come back with money, or they cannot come inside.

Re: Dear Abby
every shower invite i've ever gotten has had either one of the registry cards inside or a hand written note saying 'the couple is registered at ......'
i would never fee comfortable enough calling certain people to get that info... for instance, the invites for my cousin's wedding was sent to me from his FW's family. i do not have any contact info for my cousin at all... so if i dont get the info with a shower invite, i will be getting them a nice picture frame.

Re: Dear Abby
i think people feel kind of lost when they don't get something telling them about the registry. I also think it leaves a lot of people who feel to uncomfortable to ask to just go and buy off the registry... and then you wind up getting something you already have or don't want. I know when i get a shower invite the first thing i do is go for that little card so i know where to start shopping!! i mean really.. we all know people register, and no one usually goes to a wedding or shower empty handed.. so why not make it easy for them!!! ibut i do agree it is a big tacky to put it on or in the wedding invtie.

OMG- you sound like my FH. He yells when he sees a tv show w/ gifts at a wedding. It's not customary in NY, but it is out of state.
My aunt went ot a wedding in PA and came back raving about this table with tool and white lights they had for gifts. We were like- ahhhh- yeah- we wont be having one of those so just make sure your envelope fits in my bird cage or card bag- thanks! I know- its horrible!

Re: Dear Abby
I heard of the 'no cards' in the invite thing, but i agree that people expect them. Although people dont usually give registry gifts for the wedign anyway. The website is a great idea. Thanks for the tip!

Re: Dear Abby
wow, thanks for letting us know
I was wondering how to do that. I always feel so Awkward about wedding gifts... not giving them but saying we are registered.

Re: Dear Abby
i put it on my web site, not sending out cards, frankly im not worried whether or not people see my registry or get me stuff from it, I'm a big girl I can purchase my own things, it is nice for the people who want ideas though...
