Note** I didnt give the option for 'depends'. Either youre for it or not. If it d'depends' then youre probably for it.

also, i hate to say this, but sometimes people actually feel guilty and sorry and bad for what they did. some people CAN change.. that doesnt mean that they should be free or anything like that... but i think people judge to quickly and call a killer a monster and such.. when maybe their not deep down.

IMO a killer is a monster.. and maybe MAYBE they can change BUT they can't CHANGE what they did and the life THEY took!

yes i would feel bad that another family would have to suffer...
BUT...i am sorry having someone around that brutally killed someone...well i just can't think that is right
there are a lot of pretty disgusting things a person can do to a victim of theirs...when you really sit and think about it...it is INSANE! and imo that person needs done with!

Posted by lolita4life ALSO, just fyi.... lethal injection is NOT painless! most people think it is. So did i, til i read in depth about it. It is actually painful (burning) and it suffocates you and then paralyzes you, but you can still see and hear around you.
Actually your wrong about lethal injection. I did an a case study for my criminal justice class. The first injection you get paralyzes you almost immediately. They don't feel anything. Here's an excerpt about the process for Lethal injection is the most popular form of execution today, and it goes like this. A room is prepared where the subject is strapped down on a stainless steel table. Eight syringes are prepared, two filled with saline solution (to mix with the other chemicals), two with Sodium Pentathol, two with Pancuronium Bromide, and two with Potassium Chloride. All the syringes are connected to a multiple inlet device which controls the mix and release of chemicals via an electronic control box which the executioner operates in an adjacent room. Manual pull rods are also available to release the chemicals if the electronic device fails to function. All tubes lead to one hyperdermic needle that sticks intravenously into the subject's arm. Although some states have special procedures, most states follow the 8-Step Unified Execution Protocol, which consists of the following:
1. An injection of 10cc antihistamine, one half hour prior to execution. 2. An injection of 8cc 2% Sodium Pentathol five minutes prior to transmittal of subject to death chamber. 3. An injection of 15cc Sodium Pentathol 2% Solution delivered over a ten second time period. 4. A one minute wait. 5. An injection of 15cc Pancuronium Bromide over a ten second time period. 6. A one minute wait. 7. an injection of 15cc Potassium Chloride. 8. A two minute wait (subject should be dead by this time). So your telling me this is painful. I don't think so. I still like the fact three states still use firing squads for executions(Idaho, Oklahoma, and Utah). I am 100% for the death penalty.

strange.... what i read said opposite that they felt a very very strong burning all over their body and then pains in chest or whathaveyou... then they are physically paralyzed yet can still hear and see. they soffocate while this is happening.
put it this way... i'd be scared to get it done~~~
yet.. it beats the electric chair!
perhaps the only people who TRULY knows what it feels like are now dead. its not like anyone ever tested it out and lived to tell what it feels like.
it doesnt put you to sleep then kill you. you are awake til you are dead.

Nope. Two wrongs do not make a right. No one should decide who lives and who dies. The people who do go to prison.

First off, thanks to OctGroom for posting that information, I was always curious about what they used besides the potassium to execute, but now I know!
Lolita, respectfully I have to disagree with you on this one about it being painful. I give all of these drugs in the ER frequently, and the only one that I would say people may feel would cause pain is the potassium, but then again they person wouldnt even feel the pain after being sedated like that plus the fact that IV push potassium will kill you almost instantly. The theory about the burning would come from the experiences of people that have recieved potassium IV in the hospital (via SLOW infusion), as it does burn the veins when going in, but you are getting it over a long period of time in that case, in an execution even if you werent put out, you would not even have time to feel the pain you would be dead by the time that happens. As a matter of fact, I think this execution is too easy, the person is so medicated, that they sure as hell arent feeling anything since everything but the potassium is just for comfort measures, the potassium is given last because thats what does you in.
Break it down like this:
10 cc of 'antihistimine': Lets say they give Benadryl IV..its 50 mg per 1 mL, so you are giving them 500 mg of it..Think about how drowsy you get from taking one 25 mg pill. They are even kind enough to wait the half hour for it to kick in.
Sodium Pentothal: This is to induce anesthesia and is used in surgery. Do you know anyone who wakes up after surgery and remembers what happened then? There is no way this person is feeling pain by now. This person is not aware of what is going on around them, just as when you are in surgery you dont know.
Pancuronium: I am very familiar with this drug, we use it often in the ER when we intubate someone. This will paralyze thier diaphragm so that they cant breathe, but I cant imagine that they would be breathing very much at this point anyway after recieving all those medications. Since its only a one minute wait until they are giving the Potassium, its not like they are not breathing for a long period of time before they die.
Potassium: This is the end all. Given by direct injection will put you in cardiac arrest pretty quickly. In fact I dont think there is any other medication out there that will kill you faster than this will.
If I had it my way, I would just paralyze them and then let them die from suffocation. That would be a painful death!

Re: Death Penalty
I never said I was an expert.. but i swear i read that it is indeed painful. It went through all of the injections like OctGroom posted. I leant the book to a friend, so i cant even qoute it..... it stated that the combonation of two certain drugs (i forget which) cause the burning all over sensation.
Like I said, I'm just relaying what I read.
Like i said before, all i know is that I wouldnt want to get it to know what it feels like.... they claim it is a humane way.. i dont see how murdering someone could ever be humane.... but still..... i dont know why it would say how lethal injection is painful then. thats weird. i'll have to re-read it when i get it back.
regaurdless.... the question still stands for or against.. the pain factor doesnt determine how i feel about it, so i could care less.

Re: Death Penalty
I'm against it, but not for religious reasons. I just think it's more of a punishment to rot in jail and hopefully be 'punished' by cellmates as well! But I also believe they get treated too well in jail. They should not be allowed to see the outside world, be able to watch tv, etc. (depending on the crime though... killers and rapists should be treated like animals, and be kept in a cage 24/7) I'm also against it for the numerous innocent people who are found guilty.

I respect your opinion and the fact that a person (not just you, I mean in general) is against the death penalty no matter what the manner of death is, is one thing. If there are people out there who agree with the death penalty but feel that the death should be 'humane' that is another.
There is literature on many things out there that are controversial (abortion, ect) that will have one side using scare tactics to change people's views, and I personally can't stand to read these things full of false information that are presented as facts.
I understand your point, and I totally respect it, I personally agree with the death penalty in certain cases, and from what I see, I dont see this as a painful cruel death, the electric chair or the gas chamber IMO would be much crueler.

I agree with you that they do get treated too well in jail. They get cable TV, 3 meals a day, a free gym, classes, a library and recreation.
It makes me sick to think that there are good people out there struggling to feed themselves and thier children, to put a roof over thier heads and earn a living, when someone who murdered or raped someone is living a pretty decent life on our dime.
Is it really 'inhumane' to take away the cable TV, gym facilities and the recreation? Why not use them to clean up the streets or to do something productive in society?

While I agree that it looks like inmates have it good, there is nothing like having your freedom. Their life will never be the same, they wan't be with their families, make any decisions and just wait to die. Prison sucks.

I'm against it....though I'd have to say if someone murdered someone in my family, I'd want to murder them. I'D want to murder not have the state do it. I'd personally do it. I know that is sick, but that's really how I feel.

Sorry but i just dont agree...maybe if they were living in solitary confinement cells...yea that would be worse than death... but the jails today...jeez.they don't look that aweful. No taxes, No real job, No bills, free food, free clothing, tv, books...sheet if they got cable then they have a lot more than some free citizens... I like the whole Alcatraz concept
