It's invitation time. We've picked out the one we want, but now the wording is in question. My mother wants to be the one 'issuing the invitation' and 'requesting the honour of your presence'. The problem is, my fiancé and I are paying for the wedding (and happy to be doing so). Isn't it proper etiquette that the people issuing the invitation are the ones who are paying for the wedding? My mom is annoyed at me stating that it is tradition for the bride’s parents to issue the invitation regardless of who is paying for the wedding.
Help please!
Also, it's 4 months to go and mom still doesn't have a dress...any suggestions of where she should shop? I feel like she's been everywhere...

Re: Debate over etiquette
you are right it should be you and your FI name 1st.....than the family. In my case i didnt want his parents names at all bc they didnt give a penny but bc its the 'right' thing to do im being forced to do it!!!
this is what im doing....
Alana Leah G and Alexander D together with their parents Mr. and Mrs. Bride parents and Mr. and Mrs. Grooms parents
request the honor of your presence
as they unite their lives to one another forever
when they exchange marriage vows and begin their new life together on Friday, the fifth of January
at four o’clock in the afternoon
Church name

We are paying for the wedding ourselves and using the same wording. I think it means a lot to both sets of parents to be listed.

Re: Debate over etiquette
you can do 'daugher of...name & name'
Or a generic 'together with our parents'
but you are right, its the host (i.e. bill payer) that gets mentioned on the invtes
