Deceased Parent on Wedding Invite

Deceased Parent on Wedding Invite

I am getting married this October. This past spring my mother passed away. Although we know etiquette points to not including her name or addressing her as the 'late' Mrs. so and so, I would rather not phrase it that way. Is there another way to include my mom on the invite? Thanks for your help.

Say 'daughter of ...'

That's tough.... 'with the spirit of'? Maybe that sounds too weird...sorry I can't be of further help...

I'm in the same situation; getting married in October and my dad passed away last fall. We put 'daughter of Grace and the late Thomas...' Made me sad, but I would've been sadder without his name there. I don't really think there's a way to do it without the 'late', though. At least not without confusing people.

Re: Deceased Parent on Wedding Invite

my father passed away in april 2003 and my mother will be hosting the wedding. so i was thinking of going with something like this,

Mrs. Luisa xxxxxxx, on behalf of herself and of the late Julius xxxxxxx, requests the honor of your presence at the wedding of their daughter, etc.

My father died 6 months before our wedding...my invitation read as follows:

Mrs. Joan Smith and in spirit Mr. Steven Smith
along with Dr. & Mrs. Rose Brown

I felt it was EXTREMELY important for my father's name to be on the invitation since he was here for most of the planning.

Good Luck

I just wanna say how sorry I am for all of you who did not have your parent/parents at your weddings I am in tears just thinking about it. But in my opinion I feel that you should definately acknowledge your mother on the invitation

My SIL's dad died 11 months before she and my brother married. Their invitations read (siince SIL's parents were going to host the wedding) 'Mrs. XXXX XXXXXX' on the first line and 'In the Honor of the late XXXX XXXXXX' then 'requests the honour of your presence' etc. I thought it was a touching way to include him on the invite.

I think you should do whatever feels right to you and not be swayed by etiquette books in this case.

I put daughter of the late X. Everyone thought it was very touching that we put him on there....they knew how close we were and how hard it was for me.

My advice...do what you want...I am so glad i did!!!

I am interested in knowing the exact wording, outside of names.

Did it read something like this
Dr. Lawrence I. XXXX
In honor of Mrs. Mary Ann XXXX
Requests the honor of your attendence
at the wedding of their daughter
Ann Gabrielle
to
etc. etc.

I kind of like that.

That is exactly how my SIL had her invitations worded. I thought it was the best was to honor her dad on the invite.

The parents of Bride and Groom.

It doesn't include or exclude her. We did this b/c FFIL passed away.

Re: Deceased Parent on Wedding Invite

Ours said something like this:

Bride
&
Groom,

Along with their parents
Groom MOM's name
Groom DAD's name
The late _____ (my dad)

invite you blahh blahhh blahhh

We had a very unique situation so this is what worked the best for us and it was very well received.
