Anyone have any input, good or bad, regarding a winter wedding? Trying to make the best decision. Thanks.

Re: DECEMBER 2006 Wedding
It's a beautiful time to have a wedding. the only thing to consider would be how many people you have coming OOT in the event of snow. That would be a factor!

We're having a winter wedding!! I was a little worried at first but have gotten over it. Check with the hall to see what provisions the hall makes in case of inclement weather.

Re: DECEMBER 2006 Wedding
I'm practically in December! I just think back to the last few winters, and they've been so mild... it may snow (which will be beautiful), but the last few Christmases haven't really been all that white.. maybe a light dusting....
Good or Bad (depends on your opinion): *Snow Possibly *Holiday Decorations (at the hall, less decoration cost but less flexibility of decor of choice) *Ceremony location difficulty - the availability of certain location can become difficult in the winter (Churches, parks, gardens.. all have winter restrictions)
Good: *PRICES *Less activity at the halls, some allow you to arrive earlier/stay later for pictures - less worries of running into another bride. *No sweaty pictures (my cousin had a GM who looked like he was about to melt in July!) *No frizzy hair *Gets dark earlier so great opportunities for day, sunset and nighttime pictures!
Bad: *Competition with Holiday Parties *Travel Costs (tis the season)
I love the winter. But you really have to weigh the options.

I think the beautiful holiday decorations are such a plus for the winter

Re: DECEMBER 2006 Wedding
I honestly wanted a December wedding at first, it's so pretty that time of year with the decorations and lights....but FH didn't think it was a great time to ask guests to come to a wedding w/the holidays right around the corner.
I would have done it anyway had we decided we were getting married at church. Since we wanted an outdoor wedding, we decided on September.

One of my best friends got married in Jan, and she had a beautiful wedding! It was freezing that day, but it didn't matter to her at all!!

It would be beautiful to have a winter wonderland wedding! A co-worker got married Dec. 5, 2004 and there was a big storm that day but most of her guests showed and it was still a great day for everyone! Just make sure to send out STDs so people don't plan things for that day, seeing as it's so close to the holidays.

Re: DECEMBER 2006 Wedding
I'm having a winter wedding too. Keep in mind, mid December is not low season because of all the holiday parties. Vendors will not give you the same discounts like you would get in January or February.
My FI hates humid heat so winter wedding was the first choice. We also have a lot of OOT guests and hotel and airfare prizes in December are pretty steep.
But if you love the warmth of the holidays and the decorations involved, you do save on decorations because most places decorate for the holidays.
Just some things to keep in mind...

Re: DECEMBER 2006 Wedding
It will be beautiful. I've gone to winter weddings when it's been nice out, as well as one in the middle of a blizzard. Everything worked out fine, and the wedding was a great time. Go for it!

Re: DECEMBER 2006 Wedding
Had a winter wedding. It was a beautiful day and only rained after we were done with pics. It clouded up during the day but the temp was mild...in the 50s. No worries!
I am a winter wedding as well. Don't sweat it. If it makes you feel any better you can purchase wedding insurance...I know I am!!

Re: DECEMBER 2006 Wedding
I've always wnated a winter wedding. To me the christmas lights and snow are SO romantic. My hall is on jericho tpke right off the LIE, so it's easy to get to in case of snow, but we generally don't get a whole lot of snow in december, so I'm really not worried at all. I don't want to be hot and sweaty all day. I love winter!

I wanted a winter wedding but FMIL talked FH out of that idea since she lives near oneonta she was complaining about snow and the people who have to travel I told my FH that my family has no problem traveling in the snow they have done it before for our daughters christening lo and behold FMIL talked FH out of the winter wedding I wanted it in December cuz of the nice decor then I had said in Feb. around out anniversary but again FMIL talked him out of it and tried to get him to do it in the summerI told him I don't want a summer wedding I would like either a fall or winter wedding so we agreed on september.

Re: DECEMBER 2006 Wedding
this past february i went to two weddings ...one happened to be the night of a bad snow storm, and we had to drive back to CT...It was a terrrrrrible drive....and we got stuck in a snow bank for a little while...
HOWEVER, the other feb wedding was gorgeous, COLD but beautiful
its the chance you have to take...and if you want winter go for winter, BUT keep in mind how many OOT guests you will have
Every season has its 'issue' so go with what you TRULY want!

Re: DECEMBER 2006 Wedding
I am having a winter wedding to keep the price per head down.It is simply cheaper to do a wedding in the 'off season'. I also planned my wedding around the February school break so I can take a honeymoon without losing too many sick days. I will take days after the break to add to the honeymoon but it will be 5 versus 10. I teach summer school and I need that money to pay for the wedding.
My mother would rather risk a snowstorm than risk an air conditioning system breakdown. We are 'cold' people. WE much prefer cold weather to hot weather.

Re: DECEMBER 2006 Wedding
we are in March, and yes we are aware of snow, but I say go for it. The amount of $$$ saved doing it in the winter is great. I hate being all hot in the summer. We loved the idea, and I've seen great pics with snow on the ground. Plus, Dec. isn't even that snowy.

Re: DECEMBER 2006 Wedding
I think winter weddings are beautiful, especially if there is snow on the ground.
