Deep Thoughts

Deep Thoughts

lately i've been thinking... i was a BM in one of my best friend's wedding last month and while it was wonderful it was over soooo fast I couldn't believe it..i knew how much planning she had done and poof it was over so fast! and then on here, every bride comes back to tell us, it was amazing, but over so fast!! do you ever get the feeling like all this planning is only setting you up for a let down? like even if you have the time of your life, in the end, it will only be one day and then afterwards life will go on and this special time will be behind you, and if that is the case, is it worth it to get so worked up in the first place?
i don't mean to be negative, i just think this issue is worth looking at realistically...I would love to hear from both future and past brides on this issue...

Yes! Sometimes I totally feel that way. Also, when I'm obsessing over things like linen colors I realize that nobody cares except for me! Seriously. The only thing guests truly care about is having a good meal and having fun. All the rest is just gravy.

Sometimes I feel that way too. Thats WHY I obsess over every little detail...because its only ONE day, it's never going to happen again, and I want it to be perfect. But yes, sometimes I'm so afraid its going to come and go so fast and it'll be one big blurr and I wont remember much

I try not to let it get to me though. Even if it does go fast, you will have some memories to keep that day alive forever and you'll always have your photos to look back on. I plan on taking a few moments throughout my day to stand back with my FH and just take things all in. I hope that it will make things slow down a bit and easier to remember.

I agree but it's still hard not to obsess. Today my mom told me she wouldn't have even noticed the small bits of paper I was taking off the invitations today but I want the presentation to be perfect so I'm going through them one by one to make sure there are no stray pieces of dust. No one cares! I wish I could follow that advice. The look of love on FH's face, and having the priest say we're husband and wife are the things I'll remember and I hope will make all this madness worth it in the end.

heheheh, that's what I think when we discuss how to address envelopes and the specific wording on invitations on LIW....

Re: Deep Thoughts

Part of the reason it is so amazing and wonderful is that it's so fleeting. But it's not just a day, it's a process that cumlinates in that one day. Enjoy the planning itself. Enjoy shopping for the gown, choosing flowers, the cake, etc. Enjoy your showers and your bachelorette party.

But, it will end with the wedding day. I know that. It's why I'm glad I've only had seven months of planning. It's not as if it's taken over my entire life. I'll be sad when it's over, but I'll also be glad for my regular life back! Or, my new life with my husband, but a life in which I read books again, not bridal magazines.

I couldn't agree with you more. I am sooo glad I've only had 7 months to plan all this.

Yes, it goes sooo fast. We had our shower last weekend and time just flew by. We call it our dress rehearsal for the real thing because we took tips on what we should or shouldn't do at the wedding.

While I obsess a little over some things I don't consider myself over the edge. I have less than a month to go and I'm not a bridezilla (hoping to stay that way). All I want is to have my family and special friends with me when I marry my FH. It's all that counts.

Re: Deep Thoughts

one of my friends actually told me she was 'depressed' after her wedding because she'd put so much work into it and it was only 5 hours of her life.

but then again, I went to a wedding a few months ago that was SO boring. Literally, they had boring vows, boring food, boring music... they just threw it together. What a waste of what money they spent that they hadn't put more effort into the process?!

I guess the objective here is to maintain a balance. Care about what you're doing/having but not to get stressed. We should be enjoying this time... and not become overwhelmed by it.

I'm really scared that I'm not going to have enough time to enjoy our day.........I keep hearing how it goes by so fast too and that scares me! There has GOT to be a way to slow it down!!!!!!

There are a lot of things involved in a wedding that people don't even notice (mainly men...... lol). And some may think that it's a waste of time, or maybe it's not really worth putting all your energy into it......but it's really a personal preference. There are a lot of brides who create a VERY simple look and there are those who go all out......and both, I'm sure, feel the same when it's all over........' where did the day go?'
