Delayed Honeymoon??

Just curious if anyone else is taking a delayed honeymoon. Due to mine and my fiancee's work schedules we cannot take our honeymoon right after our wedding. We decided to wait till Feb 2006 (winter break...6 months after our wedding). People keep telling me its stupid...but there really is no way he can take off, being a teacher...what is everyone elses thoughts on this??

Re: Delayed Honeymoon??

We are taking a delayed honeymoon, also. My wedding is in July and I just don't want to do my tropical honeymoon in the summer. I would rather wait and go when it is freezing out and I can really appreciate it!
I am also a teacher, so I will have to wait until Christmas break to go. I think it will be nice to have something else to look forward to after the wedding is over!

Everyone keeps telling me I am crazy, too! I don't see whats so crazy about it?!

Re: Delayed Honeymoon??

I don't think its stupid at all! We are doing the same thing, delaying our HM until June 06 since our wedding will be right in the middle of the semester for FH. I figure it just gives me more time to enjoy the whole wedding experience- and plan it better. I can be obsessive about vacations and need a lot of time to plan everything.

Re: Delayed Honeymoon??

I think thats going to be really nice. Right after the wedding your already going to be walking on Cloud 9, why not get that feeling 6 months later too?

Re: Delayed Honeymoon??

We're taking a delayed honeymoon too. I'm getting married April 3rd and we don't leave on ours until June 6th. We decided on it for a number of reasons, mainly being that I'm in grad school in addition to working and I didn't really want to take off 2 full weeks (a total of six classes) in the middle of the semester. The other was that we weren't thrilled about Hawaii or the Caribbean and those were the only warm places we could afford to go in the beginning of April. So, by waiting until June we're able to take an amazing Mediterranean cruise with great weather and I don't have to take off of school to do it.

Will it suck that Tuesday when I'm back at work instead of on a honeymoon? Sure. But it'll be that much better 2 months later when my wedding celebration isn't over yet.

Re: Delayed Honeymoon??

We may have to take a delayed honeymoon also. FH graduates with his degree in Athletic Training and we have no idea what kind of job he is going to get. If he ends up with a winter sport like hockey he may not be able to miss that many days out of the season. I would prefer to take one right after but if we can't we will just go away somewhere for a long weekend and than plan a honeymoon as soon as we can. I don't think it is stupid at all...you do what you have to do!

Good luck!

Re: Delayed Honeymoon??

We're doing a slight delay. Honeymoon will be at the end of October. We both really wanted to go to Disney and I had the best time there at Halloween!

Re: Delayed Honeymoon??

We are! We are probably going to take a couple days off after the wedding to relax but we are going on our honeymoon towards the end of October. This way we dont run into Hurricane season in the Caribbean plus it will give us something to look forward too...I dont want it all to end right away :)

Re: Delayed Honeymoon??

We got married this past March and went on a mini moon right afterwards and then this past summer went on our HM to Tahiti, etc. It was the best thing for us to do. We were so glad we waited. Dh is a teacher so it was perfect and we were more relaxed and able to enjoy our trip. We were exhausted when we got to the South pacific I can only imagine how we would have felt after the wedding. This is your HM and do not let anyone tell you anything is stupid. This is just my opinion.

Re: Delayed Honeymoon??

There's nothing wrong with it! Since me DN FH are getting married so close to xmas, we decided it's better to wait utnila fter the holdays to take our honeymoon, though we might try to steal away for a few days after the wedding!

Re: Delayed Honeymoon??

Ok, thanks ladies, now I feel better. I figured I would be too stressed and tired to enjoy a honeymoon right after anyways...so waiting was ideal. We plan on taking a day or two and just going to the Hamptons or NYC...something like that to enjoy newlyweddom lol

Re: Delayed Honeymoon??

It's not stupid. DH and I are going over X-mas break. I am glad that we put the honeymoon off- even though we had a smallish wedding, trying to pack and make sure those arrangements were done would have put me over the edge!

Seriously, you'll look forward to it more. I know I am sort of glad we're waiting.

Re: Delayed Honeymoon??

I'm pretty sure that's what we're doing as well. We're either going over Winter Break or the following summer. I think we are going to do a short 2 - 3 day thing immediatly afterwards though.

Fh's family keeps insisting that we have to take it right after, but I'd rather wait since I'll be starting to teach about a week later (i'm hoping at least), and don't want to be stressed out during the honeymoon, or immediatly after.

It's not weird at all - don't listen to them!

Re: Delayed Honeymoon??

Hi, we are getting married in November 2005 and I don't think we are going to honeymoon until Feb of 2006. We both teach, and we want to have a full week off to go away. December would have been nice but we also want to be home for our first Christmas. Don't worry about it at all - it gives you something to look forward to!

Re: Delayed Honeymoon??

It's not stupid at all! Tell those people to mind their own #*$&() business!

I do suggest however that you spend the next day or two relaxing. Alone. Get a massage, treat yourself to a nice dinner and bottle or two of champagne. Have a 'honeymoon' night or two for the fun of it but plan your delayed trip and enjoy!

I don't think its stupid, to tell you the truth, I would prefer it that way, I would rather be at home settling into my new life right after the wedding.

Re: Delayed Honeymoon??

FH and I don't even have a good reason to delay our HM except that we WANT TO! we're going on a mini moon then plan on enjoying a long trip together some months later when we can enjoy it and relax more. Totally not stupid of you...and whoever said that is kinda rude.

Re: Delayed Honeymoon??

We took a trip to Montreal after the wedding and we are now planning on taking a trip after Christmas to celebrate our honeymoon. For DH and I it was just too much to go on a long trip---neither of us could take the time off from work.

A lot of people do this. Don't worry about it!

My sister told me how nice it was that in Disney when everyone found out it was her honeymoon they would do all cute stuff, like play songs for them at dinner, etc. But i was like ummm when i go on my honeymoon im gona say its my honeymoon. No one is gonna ask for proof that I just got married, and no on knew whether she had just gotten married or had been married for 5 months. My sisters a dork!
