Re: Question....

Not at all... my friend is getting married in April and both her mom and her FMIL came with us when we went dress shopping.

Re: Question....

IMO it sounds like she is overstepping her boundries a bit but maybe she is just trying to be helpful. Bottom line...its up to you and your BMs what dress you pick.

I think its totally fine.... Are things getting any better b/t you and your mom?

Re: Question....

Does she have daughters or only sons? Maybe she feels this is her only chance to experience these things. I think its kind of nice she wants to come and be a part of it, but then again it could be overstepping a bit.

Re: Question....

For me it totally depends on the situation.. If she just wanted to go because she is excited and wanted to see what we chose then I wouldn't mind at all. If she was going to give me her opinions and try to tell me what dress I should get then I would be annoyed. I would also take into account whether FMIL has any daughters... If not, this may be her only chance to enjoy looking at these things. This is JMO though and I can totally understand you not wanting her there if your own mom is not!

Re: Question....

Why not let her be there if it makes her happy.

The day after I picked out my gown with my mother and sister I was still unsure, so I brought my FMIL and step mother to see it, it was actually my mom's suggestion and everyone loved it so I bought it.

Re: Question....

MY FMIL came with me to pick up my dress and look at a few BM dresses honestly i did NOT want her to come but she insisted.

I didn't go all bridezilla on her since alll my family and bridal party is 500 miles away........ but i really would have rather have gone alone with my daughter since all she does is complain

I would have been happy if FMIL could make it. Unfortunately, we don't live in the same state and I kind of shopped first with my MOH, made some decisions, and the girls went separately. If things had been done differently, I would have loved for FMIL to come along!

My FMIL has all sons so I invited her because she will never get the opportunity to wedding dress shop. My mom did the same thing when she got married for the same reason.

Re: Question....

It is not your wedding dress you are looking for, its for the bm's. And personally, if you do not want her input, why is she coming???? I know its nice, but I feel that this is your time with your girls....I mean, I asked my mom if she would care if she didn't come and she was like 'absolutely not - this is you and your bm's decision and your time to have fun with them' Maybe my mom is just different..but when I got home, I did show her the one's I liked for her opinion.....it came down to for me that if my mom doesnt come, no ones mom is.....

HOWEVER, if it is a big deal to fmil and she wouldnt understand, then I would kind of suck it up and just bring her so it doesnt cause problems. Just bite your tounge when she has somehting to say.

Things are fine with my Mom. She is just helping out for a bit longer and then coming back once my Sister puts her son in daycare.

This is great for you!!!

It depends if you like her or not. But if you dont want her there then dont have her there!

Re: Question....

I love my FMIL but am very happy she lives in FL! If she invited herself alon to look at dresses, I would be very annoyed.....she also doesn't have the best taste and tends to be a little bit on the frugal side. I don't want my wedding party to look like the dresses came from Walmart!
