When me and my fh picked the date I always said I wanted to wait at least 2 years then we picked the month. I wanted 2 years because we didnt want it to become overwhelming with the money or planning. we also set a budget for ourselves and then broke it down to how much money we would have to come up with each month and at 2 years it was doable. Its a hard decision but go with ur gut and what you feel is right I always say where theres a will theres a way!!

Re: To Wait or Not To Wait.....
I have a 2 yr engagement. We got engaged summer 2008 and wedding day is Oct. 2010.
PROS:
- you get time to plan well and save $$ on vendors -more time to research -you get to tell people you're married and be done with it!
CONS:
-strangers asking you why you are taking so long to get married -possibility that FH will back out or get cold feet (very rare but it does happen when couples rush to get engaged and over time something happens that makes the couple think twice about tying the knot) - waiting, waiting, waiting for the Big Day (esp if all the vendors are booked and you are done w the details)

i feel like if this is a possibility, then waiting is probably the best idea!! you don't want to get cold feet AFTER the fact!

we got engaged 12-12-08 and will be getting married 6-6-10(a year and a half but org we were thinking 11/10! waiting gives you time to: breathe, save money, make smarter choices(for the most part) and im so happy thst we did it this way cause by the time the big day comes we would have paid it off by ten and will not be freaked out for money!!

I was just thinking the same thing! I'd rather cancel a wedding than get a divorce.

Re: To Wait or Not To Wait.....
we will be 12 days shy of a 2 yr engagement when we get married. We had been together for 10 1/2 years when we got engaged in July 2008 and I had said I wanted to get married in 2009. Well first thing FH said after he proposed was he had to finish school first before we did any planning (in Dec 08). That was fine with me.
I had 2 of my friends wedding (one Sept 08 and March 09) in which i was a bridesmaid and after those i was so glad i did not pick 09. Though I did not have a lot to do for them it really wiped me out. There was no way I could have gotten things done for my own wedding. I am so glad we waited... 2 years goes by really fast and if u can get it all paid off by the time of the wedding u will feel so much less stressed. Good luck!

Re: To Wait or Not To Wait.....
We were engaged for almost 2 1/2 years.
PROS - You can book the vendors you want. We got our hall on the date we wanted and then relaxed for a little while. I was on liweddings so I read tons of reviews and picked great vendors. - Enough time to save money - Enough time to do tons of details. - I never felt rushed. I enjoyed all the planning! I was never stressed. - I got to enjoy being engaged!
The only con I can think of is just waiting.

Got engaged 12/19/08 & getting married 4/2011 so for just 2 1/2 years.
Pros
More time to save for all the things we want
We can get all the things we always wanted
Did not have to rush to make decisions on major vendors we have plently of time to look around and compare
Cons
Just waiting for the big day

Re: To Wait or Not To Wait.....
agree with the other girls...
you get your first choice vendors and you get to save up a lot more
cons- is just waiting and other people's response 'why so far away?' but hey unless they want to pay for it then they can just shove it lol

Re: To Wait or Not To Wait.....
I got engaged 10/09. My brother is getting married next year so we are planning a 11/2011 wedding. It will be 2 yrs. At first, it seemed like long but the more we thought about it, it really gives us time to save, plan, etc.

Re: To Wait or Not To Wait.....
We got engaged 1-6-09 and we aren't getting married until 9-1-11. (2 Years- 5Months). I think by having a longer enagement you are able to negotiate with vendors more and REALLY plan the wedding of your dreams..
