Re: Ugggggh

I'm thinking that maybe she's making up for not being more present in her grandchild's daily life, like she used to be?

Not saying I agree with her, just a hunch that that's where it's coming from.

Ummm because she's grandma and that's what they do.

Sorry, I have to disagree with you on this one Ilana. I've always been one to spoil children rotten too, but they also have to be taught appreciation and gratification by their parents....not the grandparents, aunts/uncles, etc. That's the fun of being a grandparent, aunt, uncle, whatever......is you get to spoil the kids

I have to agree with Kris. FH and I live in FL and today was our daughter's first birthday and she got loads of gifts from her grandparents. I think it is their way of making up for not being able to be there for her everyday.

shes their grandchild... get used to it. they will spoil her sooooooo much. its better than having rotten grandparents who dont care and dont send their grandkids anything.

embrace it, and makeher write thank you cards. dont let her play with the toys until she does this.

( i should take my own advice)

That's probably part of it...and part of it is that she definitely doesn't think we're capable of making a birthday special for FSD...that's why she wanted to fly out here, because she thought that if she wasn't here it was just going to be like any other day.

REALLY, lady??? Get a grip!!

Remember what I told you about that stuff? Don't react! That's all! Accept the gifts graciously - make no mention of how you thought there was going to be a lot less of them. Like someone else said, it could be worse...she could have barely any connection to her grandchild. And as Laura said, grandparents spoil their grandkids. Moreso when there's geographical distance. I made off like a queen when my grandparents moved to FL when I was younger.
Don't react to the FMIL. That's my mantra.

r u sure youre not being a lil defensive hun? i understand u and her dont have the BEST relationship.. but this is her grandchild... i think its reallllly nice of her to fly in to spend time with her grandchild and send gifts. i would do the same.

if she snaps at you and throws diggs at u then get nasty... but if shes spoiling your fsd..let her. less stuff you have to buy lol

ITA - grandparents love to spoil, just teach her to be appreciative and let it go - need to pick & choose battles!
