I don't have any great advice but possibly tell him the more you can guarantee to the RH the cheaper you can get it per person

well the more you can guarantee the more you can negotiate price....so the price pp will be lower if you can guarentee more!

Re: Guestlist Drama
i understand where your FH is coming from ... i have a very small family and he has a very large family ... and i wanted a small wedding (ideally, i would love a 50 person guest list) ... but that's just not happening.
however, family is family and i would never tell FH to cut any of them out ... their family friends is another story though
you need to tell your FH that you want your family there with you ... that it's not just random people coming. he should understand that

that's a tough one, but he should really understand that having your family there means a lot. The only suggestion I have is to find a RH that has a really low price pp, along with a not so popular month to bring the price down. Or you can look at places that aren't reception halls, like VFW's or something like that. This might not be the place of your dreams, but at least you can come to happy medium.

My FH and I were having the same issue. I have a large family and have about 110 people on my list alone and he has about 20 people. He wants to have a small wedding but I can't imagine my wedding day without my family there. I just explained to that he him and he reluctantly conceded.

Not to play devil's advocate but does you guest list top out a 125? Bc if so then guaranteeing (sp) 75 isn't so bad. I know it's your wedding but it very possible not everyone will come and then you are stuck eating the guarantee for 125 with let's say only 100 people. Because people unfortunately even RSVP and don't show. If you want to move it up to 100 I think that's reasonable.

Re: Guestlist Drama
FH & I are having the exact same problem but opposite roles-he wants to invite everyone-but i'm trying to tell him budget wise it just isn't possible. And i don't want my wedding to be a party for everyone else to get together. I just hate the idea of meeting people for the 1st time and seeing faces that i don't even know!
If you have the money to pay for all these extra people then i really don't see the problem; but if you don't then you really have to consider cutting some of your list. Or find a place that is a lower cost pp so that you can invite everyone. A wedding isn't supposed to make you go broke! You don't want to start off your life arguing and in debt b/c you had to invite 200+ people.

Re: Guestlist Drama
I understand-i know it's hard. If you want to have all of them there and it's financially possible then invite them-but i'm assuiming your FH hesitations are concerns over the budget getting to high?

Re: Guestlist Drama
the dreaded budget! Well only you & him know what you can ultimately afford. If you can find ways to fit in those extra people than go for it. But he does have a valid point. What's that saying you can't make a quarter out of a nickle? something like that LOL! You can pay for an extra $2-$3K if the money's not there...guests aren't free. SORRY I hope he comes around or you maybe get some help from your side of the family to cover the costs of having everyone there.

Re: Guestlist Drama
I know how you feel. FH and I have been going back and forth about this, Because I have a huge family and we are VERY close. And his is small and they're distant. If you try to convice FH mention that the higher the guarantee the RH is willing to negotiate prices. And if you stick with 100, it shouldn't be so bad. I hope things work out for you!!!!!

Tell him ur Fam is very importan to him...
besides, you guys should take decision as a COUPLE... Not what u want... Not what he wants.... What YOU BOTH want.....
Ask him what would happen if ur fam was smaller and his fam were bigger???
