Re: FMIL dress, I don't know what to think!! (pics) Please ladies, I need opinions!!!!
I wouldn't worry about it...atleast she finally found something to wear...if thats her style then let it be...Did she let you know that she couldnt make it on Sunday? or did she just get up and go without telling you?

Julieann, I think both gowns are really pretty!!!! So, your FMIL, is wearing blue, and your BM, pink? I could be wrong, but I don't think anyone will notice the similarities of the gowns. They'll be looking at how beautiful you are!!!!!! I'm sorry, FMIL went without you. Mary MOB

i think its elegant and many guests wont show up in something similar...i think its a nice dress actually and beautiful color...if she is comfortable in and loves it then thats the important part.

I wouldn't stress over it. FMIL just told me the other day she bought her dress and it's a light blue and I was hoping she would get what she originally said which was a champagne or taupe b/c I was trying to keep the whole theme Fall Colors. My BM's are wearing Jim Hjelm's Sienna and my mom is going to be getting a bronzy color so the blue is prob not going to go well, but I could never tell her that. She is SO excited about her dress and can't wait for me to see it and no matter what I will tell her how much I love it.
Some people I think don't like to stand out too much regardless of their importance at the wedding. Although it is YOUR wedding, I don't think this is something you should get too worked up over.

I agree with Mary that the star of the show will be the bride and not as much the mothers.
Also, when my brother got married, I went with my mother to look for the MOG dress...we did not involve the bride simply because we were more comfortable shopping together. After all, do you know how your FMIL works when it comes to clothes shopping?
I'm sorry you weren't included in the dress shopping, but honestly, it's not such a big deal.
As long as both mothers have something nice to wear that they each feel comfortable in, the rest will fall into place...don't sweat the small stuff!

At least she got a dress. It is a different color and I don't think it will be noticed. My mom didn't get her dress yet and I am the week after you. She told me yesterday that she was thinking of wearing the dress she wore to my twin sister's wedding! I was sort of shocked. My sister was married in '96 and I asked her if it still fits. She said that she was going to try it on. It cost $900 then so I guess she wants to get another wear out of it. I wouldn't ask her to change it, she will only lose her money on it since all items there are non refundable.

Suzanne, your post reminds me of my Mom being shocked when I told her I didn't plan to wear my MOB dress to my other Daughter's Wedding, whenever that may be. I'd like to coordinate!!! I think my other Daughter, Donna, wants a wine color for her wedding, so I wouldn't wear turquoise. Besides, I'd love a different dress in a different color. Although I do understand getting one's money's worth out of an expensive dress/gown. Mary MOB

I understand but I think I would try not to worry about it...while it does look similar I don't think anyone will think that....and if she is comfy in it and it is a really pretty dress let it go...it could be much worse. That is pushing it very close though to just be getting her dress now.

As long as it's not too similar to YOUR dress I wouldn't worry about it. Trust me, no MIL will show up the bmaids and truthfully if she's happy in it and will have a good time I would just let it go.

Honestly..there's nothing you can really do about it. If she wants to wear it, she's gonna wear it. The color is completely different and I wouldn't notice the similarity.
BTW...your bm dresses are sooo pretty!

I just think the photo albums are going to make her feel uncomfortable if anyone notices but I doubt anyone will remember from that long ago. My FH's 2 brothers were married last year and I didn't think of wearing the same dress.

My Mom is 80, and she's very practical, down to earth gal, not into fashion do's and don'ts. Actually she wore an aqua dress and duster coat, to my Christmas themed wedding, where the BM wore red velvet gowns. I didn't even think about it way back then. I personally would try to coordinate with the wedding colors. Mary MOB
