Deposit prior to meeting photographer!!!

Deposit prior to meeting photographer!!!

So...I met with a photography studio and talked with one of the representatives. I looked through albums from the photographers and liked one specific photographer. Afterward, they were very professional contacting me with a courtesy call and follow up letter. SO...I called to set up an appointment with the specific photographer to see if we click....and was told that in order to meet with the photographer, I have to put a deposit down at the studio. That this is the procedure. WHAT??? How can they make you put a deposit down before you get to meet with the photographer???? SO....What's your thoughts on this??? Any help would be appreciated!!!!

I don't know if this is normal..but is the deposit refundable? If so, then what's the harm? They may wish to see you seeming committed before scheduling the meeting.

I've never heard of this. It would almost be a turn off for me.

I guess they want some money to ensure that you use them regardless if you like the photographer or not. If it were me I wouldn't book them unless you got to meet your photographer. I met with mine while I was at my appointment. It's important, this is someone that is gonna be with you the ENTIRE DAY!!!!

umm, i don't think so. What if you don't click? Unless he is a world renowned wedding expert, I would keep looking. Good Luck!

I met with 7 or 8 photographers, and not one of them asked for a deposit to meet with them.

That would totally make me not want to meet with them at all.

all I have to say is DO NOT DO IT! that's bull.. if they are really professional...then they would say sure no prob.... especially since they need your business more than you need their's

That sends up a red flag to me.

Thanks that's how I felt....They didn't state if I would get my deposit back if I did not like the photographer, instead they stated that I could choose another photographer if I did not like him. I was so stunned that I did not even ask. I just quickly got off the phone.

We met with many studios and any place that said we had to book before we could meet the photographer was a turn-off. Good chemistry between you and your photographer is important. We went with Chuck at Artisan and could not be happier.

That was the # 1 reason I didn't book with Duet. IMO, clicking with the photographer is VERY important, and there was no way I would book someone I never met.

I wouldn't put a deposit down until I met the photog. What if he or she is this nasty person that you don't want to deal with on your wedding day?

I never heard of that before.

I wouldn't do it. I would simply find another photographer. Try Twelfth Night. That's who i'm using and lots of other brides on this site.

OMG...I think I know who you are talking about...I like to refer to them as the used car dealership of photographers....forget that! That's not right! That can be a total deal breaker. Don't back down on that! And I went to many, many photographers and nobody told me that.

i think i know who you are talking about as well. FM me the name and i will tell you if it is the same person. i had something like this happen to me too and it turned me off. i found out later why this person is doing this. do not go with them if i think it is who you are talking about.

this happened to me with a florist. it was a complete turn off and I never followed up, it seemed like a scam.

I agree - I have never heard of that before, and I would not do it (unless it is refundable). JMO
