Depressed about Dress

Depressed about Dress

Ok so I am upset about my dress, hating it with 67 days to go. I went down yesterday to try it on againa nd see how they were doing with the boning. so far, verdict is horrible. It is still wrinkling oddly in the middle because it has no boning to keep it flat. I want to cry. They never told me it was a dress with straps. The floor sample was strapless and when they showed me my dress, it did have straps butwhen asked, the girls said 'Oh they all come that way and we can take them off.' I didn't realize that without the straps, it sags.

I am so upset because iit is so much like a Maggie Sottero I wanted that would have worked better due to the boning, but I couldn't find it anywhere so I ordered my dress thinking, pish same thing. Apparently its not. It looks ok in pics but thats because it was pinned within and inch of it's life and I was standing at soldier-like attention to try and keep it from sagging.

It's too late to order anything else, even if I rushed ordered, so I have to stick this out. I cried myself to sleep last night which sounds stupid, but one of the only reasons I wanted a larger wedding when the elopement idea didn't work out, was so I could wear a real wedding dress and look like a beautiful bride. And now I just look wrinkly and its all off and I just needed to complain...

i'm really sorry!! is there a way they can cut the fabric and make it tighter so that it won't be wrinkley?talk to your seamstress about how unhappy you are with the dress. they know better than anyone what the solution is, call them up and speak to them!

oh honey I am so sorry! What about local sample sales and davids bridal? You can get something off the rack, cleaned and altered in time for your wedding. PLEASE don't wear a dress you hate! I totally regret not getting my dream dress. While I did love my wedding gown I fell in LOVE with a Lazaro dress at a sample sale and now that the wedding is over i know that spending $1500 on a dress is not THAT outrageous and we could have made it work. My maggie cost $700 and it was beautiful but I will always think about that damn lazaro.

NOT WORTH IT! Get the dress of your dreams! GO OUT NOW! The debt is worth it in my opinion.

Best of luck to you!

I REALLY think they can still fix it for you! Seamstresses work wonders. If you feel that the seamstress at RK isn't doing a good job, take it somewhere else! Although I'm not using her, I have only heard wonderful things about Phyllis at Bridal Elegance.

On a different note, it sounds like they totally ordered you the wrong version of your dress!!!! I would 100% speak to a manager about this!

But I still think they can fix it! The wrinkly parts are extra material - they just have to take that in! Don't worry, you will look awesome on your big day!!!

If all that is wrong with the dress is no support and it not fitting correctly, that can be fixed by a good seamstress. If they're not helping you where ever you have it now, ask on LIW for the name of a good seamstress in your area and take it there. Immediately! Don't waste time. If it looked good on you while pinned, it can be fixed, seriously. It just needs work. Don't get another dress, it's not worth the money, make this one look good on you.

Good luck.

Re: Depressed about Dress

Thank guys. i have to see how it goes on June 8-second fitting. if it doesn't work I am going to take it to a local seamstress my aunt has used who specializes in eveningwear and bridal. I can't afford another dress and it wouldnt get here in time. Two minths till my wedding-just not enough time even if I could afford it. I am going to go veil shopping this week-might make me feel better. Or maybe I;ll buy jewlery! hah! Thanks folks.

Wait a sec, why cant they just add the boning to the dress? You said there is none right? So ask them to put boning in- 2 on the front, 2 on the sides and 2 in the back... will definatly do the trick! keep your chin up

you WILL be a beautiful bride. wait this out and see how it looks after all alteration. And if you like that the straps keep it up, have them put back in or if you didnt get them taken out yet, don't!

Re: Depressed about Dress

does your dress have that elastic strap in jst below the bust?? Like a wide bra strap? Mine is strapless and that helps hold the dress up...so if yours doesn't have that, maybe they can add it? I've never heard of a dress needed straps to hold it up! Many of the styles i tried had 'optiona' straps that came with it...it's a gorgeous dress...i am sure a streamsess can make it work!!

The problem is the material is thin so if they do it in front, shows. They can only so it along the sides where the seams are. So far not doing great. We will see how it workswhen I go for the second fitting,

It will work out. I've seen seamstresses make entirely new dresses in the amount of time you have left. Let them know how unhappy they are. The previous posts offered some great suggestions.

You'll be beautiful, don't be depressed.

Re: Depressed about Dress

what about if you bought off the rack or on ebay? If you hate it that much, then check out David;s or something

EDITED: I just saw your dress in your album and it's BEAUTIFUL on you!!! Let the seamstress fool with it because it'll turn out fine and you already look gorgeous in it! I'm sure they'll figure something out

Re: Depressed about Dress

so stressful.... don't worry, I KNOW there is a solution somewhere. Definitely contact your aunts seamstress now, and tell her you MAY require her services after 6/8... that way, you have your foot in the door. Seamstresses get really busy in the summer...

I was stressed at my last fitting becuase I had to wait 45 min for my gown.... the first 30, I think the woman thought she lost it . Then, I think the alterations weren't complete, becuase the gown had to be steamed and the beading was MIA. I'm a bit worried now becuase all that beading was unraveled, and there's a lot to piece together over the next couple weeks. I insisted on an early pick-up date to ensure the gown is in one piece, and they don't forget my appointment again

but it is true, these seamstresses work wonders in the time allotted. we shouldn't be afraid. maybe your gown just needs a thicker lining... one that can hide the boning?
