Depression is Winning

Depression is Winning

Well, yesterday I had my first makeup trial and I was disappointed. The artist was a sweetheart and she spent a lot of time with me but I did not get the ahhhh feeling when it was all done. I am not a makeup wearer and this was actually the first time that I had so much makeup applied on my face. For me, it was just tooooo much. I communicated this to her and she tried to tone it down some but it was still tooooo much. I am very disappointed cause the vendor that I used is one of the preferred makeup artists on LIW and I just did not like the look. Since I am not accustomed to wearing makeup, that may have been the problem. Now, I am back to square one looking for a makeup artist. This wedding is really putting a damper on my spirits. At first I was all exited but depression is really kicking in. I'm trying to fight it, but looks like depression is wining.

Can anyone recommend someone that may be able to give me a more of a natural look.

Thanks a million.

Do you have any pictures from the trial?

I had so much trouble finding a make-up artist. I had 4 trials before I booked with oksana. I recommend you try contacting her, she really listens to you and what you want. Also, it helps to bring pictures so they have an idea of what you're looking for

You might want to try something like Bare Essentials in the mall. They do free trials. I use there makeup on a regular basis and its just the natural look. I hate that cakey feeling.

Where are you located?

I had a great expereince at Maximus at the Source mall (5 years ago for my brother's wedding).

More recently, I had a great experience at SPAce Salon in Astoria for my engagement party. Nycki did my make-up and it was awesome! Look at my album for photos of my engagement party.

I am using a girl named Gina who works at the Bare Escentuals store in the RF mall. She will be coming to my house on my wedding - she works free lance. She did my makeup for me, and it looked so good and not TOO heavy (I can't wear much makeup b/c of severe allergies)

That's the first thing that I told her. As a matter of fact, she asked me what my vision was and I told her that since I don't wear makeup, with the exception of lipstick, I did not want something so drastic. I stressed a natural look. But like I said, it may be just something that I am not used to but even FH thought it was a bit much especially the eyelashes that he added,

I had the same problem!!! I had a sweetheart makeup person who is highly regarded so I thought it would be easy but boy I was wrong.
After the makeup was on I didn't feel like me! It was just way tooo much. I went home & FH said umm, yeah it is too much, you don't need that much makeup to look nice, you look better without it (which was actually sweet of him) So I ended washing it all off. I learned something though, heavy eye makeup during the day, while it may look ok in pictures makes me look tired in person.

I am so disappointed and back to square one again. So very frustrating! I am so behind in everything & so stressed with it all.

Let me know if you have luck. I'll let you know if I get lucky.

Sandy, I'm really glad you posted this!!! I don't like makeup at all!!! And I've been wondering if it's really necessary for me, the MOB; I'm thinking just lipstick, but I guess I better make up my mind!! I had told Debi yes to makeup, but now I'm not so sure!! Any other Moms that you ladies are aware of at weddings, not wear all the makeup? Mary MOB

For my brother's wedding and for my engagement party, my mom did her usual thing...a bit of foundation and some lipstick. No one really noticed because it's what she usualy does, and I'm not going to pressure her to do more for my wedding. I will, however, set her up with a hair appointment for my wedding day...she liked the person who did her hair for my engagement party.

Mary, I'm sure you'll look wonderful with just some lipstick!

Re: Depression is Winning

Hey lady!
I got your FM reallly late last night and I could tell you were so distraught that I wanted to make sure that I sent you something that made sense but my mind doesn't work well past 2am.

I have the exact same issue as you. I have never been a make up girl, you're actually better than me because I don't even do lipstick just a bit of gloss. I haven't done a trial w/ hair or makeup yet b/c i'm just scared of how to go about it. Especially my hair b/c i've never had it professionally done and my locs are like my kids...haha

My sis is more girly than I and told me of a artist she uses that is nearby me...and thus nearby you as I live in springfield gardens and you're in rosedale. Her name is Cindarella (yeah I know...lol) and she has a salon for just for makeup and skin care on Merrick Blvd. and Springfield. I'm gonna check her out one of these days haha

For hair i'm going to try ChopsNLocs on 34th b/c one of my friends referred their stylist to me and he was able to set me up with a free styling and maintenence package if you agree to let her take pics for her portfolio.

so as you see I havent' made any strides at this yet but I have made plans
