Dessy BM Dresses Sizing, Netbride
Brace yourselves. This is going to be long...but I'm hoping that anyone who has used netbride to order a Dessy gown could help me out...it may very well depend on the style...but anyway, here it goes...
So I just sent out an e-mail to my bridesmaids, asking them to send me their measurements/sizes and checks so that I could order all the dresses together from netbride...I sent them a link to the size chart and also noted that it said girls 5'9' or over (with shoes) should get length added...
However, one of them (my cousin) was at Macy's, trying on her friend's BM gown (which is also by Dessy), and she said the following:
'Couple of quick things to keep in mind. As we all saw when we first tried on the dress (and I saw yesterday), it is extremely long. I would need to take at least 3-4 inches off the length and I'm around 5'5'. I didn't see it anywhere on the website so I'm guessing the dress doesn't come in petite? I think we need to see if there's any way that during alterations the bodice can be pulled up at all. Once they start chopping fabric off the bottom without shortening the torso, it's going to make everyone look like they have really long torsos and really short legs; especially those on the shorter side... I would guess that a tailor could pull the rouching on the side to shorten the torso and keep it from shortening everyone’s frame. Also, from the experience I just had with my friend's dress (also a Dessy dress being ordered through a wholesaler), I would be very careful with sizing.
I took the size chart I was given for my friend's dress, brought it to a reputable tailor last week and he took my measurements while I watched. The measurements he took fell into the chart under the size 14. When I told my friend to order me a 14, she told me she thought that size was wrong especially because when I tried on the sample dress while we were looking at them it was a 12 and very big on me. Under her encouragement I went back to Macy's to try the sample and she was right. The 12 was swimming on me so there was no way I should order a 14. I think this size chart might cause the same problems.
As I said, I tried on this dress in a size 10 yesterday and it was big on me. I think the size I need is an 8 just to be safe. This chart, like the one my friend provided, also says with my measurements I should order a size 14 which I know is not my size. This chart is basically the same chart my friend had given. '
Aaaaah...I have to get going on ordering these...what do you think??
