Destination Wedding.....

Destination Wedding.....

I am having destination wedding and was wondering if anyone knows how early the 'save the dates' and Invitations should go out??
I was told 'STD' - 8mos. before and Invites - 6mos. before....
I know people need plenty of time to plan and save $$ so does that sound right?

i think it depends on what kind of people you are having- ie close relatives/friends. i know that many people who have destination weddings have mainly close f and f- and they will prob already be making arragements before you send out the invites- i would send out 4-5 months on the invite- to give people extra time- but not too much time so they forget/ lose the invite.

I am getting married next Sept and plan to send my Save the Dates out in January since 75% of my wedding is from out of town and January is when people will have their 2003 calanders out -I would send them out after sooner rather than later since for yours, people may have to let their employeers know vaction schedules early in the year. Good luck!

I have the 'STD' cards but was going to send out first week in Jan. to avoid them getting lost/forgotten in the Holiday card season.....
Do you think I should send them out now?
Wedding is in Oct. '03....

Those were my thoughts exactly - I am also waiting until Jan after the holidays since I don't want mine to be tossed with the rest of the cards!

Re: Destination Wedding.....

Where is the destination? If its far (Bermuda, Cancun - I've been invited to both of them) then you need to do STDs ASAP! My wedding is in Sept and I'm sending out my STDs next week b/c the majority of my guest list is in PA and VA.

I agree - you need to send out the STD's now - I have cousins that called my from Tennessee two weeks ago -it was their time to put in their time off for their jobs, and they had to put in their time for my wedding!

My whole feeling is that you can never do it too early!

Good luck!!!

I would send out your STDs now. You might also want to send out some hotel information with them as well so your guests can start planning. Getting married in Italy sounds so romantic!!! I'm jealous!!!

Re: Destination Wedding.....

You guys don't think if I send them out now they will get lost/forgotten in all of the holiday card madness?

Re: Destination Wedding.....

I think it doesn't matter if you send them now or after the holidays - with the holiday craziness so close, people may not have time or energy to think about booking a trip to Italy during the holiday season.

My advice is to send them out the first week in January, and if you are that concerned, you can always call your friends and relatives to ask if they received the STD, and see if they have any questions about the travel info that you've included. Just don't expect them to tell you whether or not they plan to attend - this is a huge financial and time commitment and people will need to decide if they can swing it.

Re: Destination Wedding.....

I think we have a pretty good idea of who is coming and who isn't b/c we discussed the decision to have the wedding in Italy with our friends and close family prior to making the final decision.

For alot of them it will be the one and only time they get to do something like this and of course....there will be people who say they will and then for whatever reason can not make it b/c it is such a big undertaking to plan a trip overseas......

I understand that we are asking alot of people, but mostly everyone that I am close to is excited about it....

Ok - I am rambling.....

I will send them in January!!! Thanks Everyone!

Re: Destination Wedding.....

I'd do it now! If you're not ready yet, then call everyone now and then send the std cards in January. Definitely include hotel info and try to get discounts from the hotel and airline. (My FSIL got married 2 years ago in Bermuda and got deals for everything). Where in Italy? I'd love to hear more about the wedding!

Re: Destination Wedding.....

Keep in mind that people need time to get their passports and such ready... some people have them already, but not everybody!!!!

Re: Destination Wedding.....

That is a good point about the passports!!!!

We are getting Married in Fiesole, Italy. It is in Tuscany about 10 miles north of Florence.

I am planning activities for everyone for the day before and after such as a walking tour through Florence, a cooking class, wine tasting, Hot Air balloon rides over the hills.....
There is so much you can do for not alot of money!!!

FH proposed in Florence earlier this year and this is the best way we could think to get married.....
We (he more than I) are not very traditional....but I still wanted the special day and the beautiful dress
etc.....
So this is what we came up with.....

I hope this all comes together!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sage, I sent you a private forum mail...click on the Mailbox button above to read it.

A proposal in Florence sounds so romantic!! I can't even imagine how incredibly romantic the wedding will be!

Cooking classes, walking tours, wine tastings...I want to be a guest at your wedding...LOL!

I can't imagine the stress of planning so far away though. I thought I had it bad, planning from California! LOL!
