Destination wedding you're not attending - gift?

Destination wedding you're not attending - gift?

A friend of mine is getting married in the Dominican Republic next month. I'm not able to go, plain and simple, because I am using all my vacation time at work for my own wedding, and I really don't have the extra cash to be spending on going to the DR for 5 days.

So what do you do in terms of gifts? Obviously I plan to send her a gift, but do I send as much as I would have if I were going to the actual wedding? I think so, but I just want to check what the proper etiquette is before I piss anyone off

Thanks ladies!

i guess it depends on how close of a friend it is. Honestly, I would probably send less than I would have given if I went to the wedding.

If it's a really close friend, I would give the same gift regardless of whether or not I could attend the wedding.

If it's not a super-close friend, I would give a little bit less, or even pick something nice off of her registry.

ETA: I don't really like giving a cash gift unless I'm attending the wedding, but that's just me.

FH's friend had a destination wedding, we did not go, but gave as good a gift as if we had gone.

But he's a really good friend, and in our wedding, FYI

I usually give less of a gift if I do not attend the wedding. Most times I have ordered something off of the registry and had it shipped to the bride.

If she's a close friend, I give as much as I would have if I was attending the wedding. If not then a gift off her registry or a little less is fine.

I would send her what I would send if I went...or a cash gift (but not too much) and something off her registry.

I say $200 should cover you.

I would send the same amount as I would have given if she was having her weding here and I was attending, if that makes sense... HTH
