Does your DH want your baby to be named after him if it is a boy? and, how do you ladies feel about this?
I am not having kids for a while, but DH and I were talking yesterday and I found out that he wants our son (if we have one) to be named after him. I am ok with it, and luckily I like his name. LOL
Just curious what all the other hubbies are saying...

Re: DH and baby naming...
Patrick is a junior, and really disliked sharing his dad's name. He hated being 'Little Pat' as a child, and as a teenager and an adult, he and his dad were often opening each other's mail and taking each other's phone calls, which he said was confusing, and at times very aggravating. He STILL can't get a credit card that his dad opened in 1983 off of his credit report, even though he has gone through great lengths to prove that he was only 11 years old at the time.
That said, there will be no Patrick III.

Re: DH and baby naming...
WOW jenn, good point. I dont know how I feel about the 'little Tom' thing. And I cant believe that about the credit! That stinks!
We are thinking of our first son to take his name as a middle nam...and then IF we have a second son...to name him after DH...but since DH is John...I want to call the baby Jack...so no little...or junior...
John is after his father Jean...I figured its a nice tradition...
if we kept it John though it would be weird to hear Johnny...since DH's family calls him that (or Juanito)...I would want our son to have his 'own' identity
my dad is a junior...and they call him Bud...hey at least its something for himself

Re: DH and baby naming...
John ABSOLUTELY ALWAYS wanted a Junior. But John Anthony only has his first name (DH's middle name is Robert), and Ive always loved the name Anthony, so we both had a say I do like the name John, but I also wasnt thrilled about the 'big john, little john' thing, so we'll see when he starts getting 'nicknamed' in school, maybe we'll just call him Anthony I already tease John about it now, I say 'Ahh lets just call him Anthony .
Then I JOKE about our next boys to be named GianLuca (LOVE THAT NAMEEE) John Marco
of course Im teasing !!!!!!! I say the same thing jennb said 'we're not the foremans '
Ive even heard of moms naming girls after themselves.
there are SO many names out there, why duplicate names???

Re: DH and baby naming...
My DH, who is a junior, wavered about wanting to name a son after him. I protested, as I think everyone should have his own name (plus, I really don't love the name Edward). When we found out we were having twins, my SIL suggested we call one ED and one NOT-ED! (DH was NOT amused). I convinced him it wouldn't be fair to name only one after him, so I conceded and both have Edward as a middle name. I too, could not go through life with Big Ed, little Eddie, etc.

Re: DH and baby naming...
Yes..we talk about it all the time. If we have a boy he wants our son to be named after my husband and I don't! His family and our family have tons of Jr's. Everybody has the same name. My father, my grandfather and great grandfather all have the same name. We lived in a 2 family house. It got very confusing for the mail, phone calls, etc. I would like to pick a different name that we can both agree upon (right now we can not agree). We were going over the names in the other Parenting board post on baby names to see if he liked any. I thought this might help!
(plus I am not a big fan of the name Steven it reminds me of one of my cousins ...)
dawnie...i so know how you feel about the mail situation....since my parents didn't have any boys...and my dad was a jr...I got my dad's initials (my sister has my moms)...and even though we are different genders and have completely different names...the mail definitely was an issue!!!
also we have Uncle Richie, Little Richie(aka Cousin Richie), Baby Richie (who is now 19)...and thats just one of 4 or 5 repeated names...
with female names...i sometimes think its nice...my dad's cousin's wife has a very unusual name...Corliss...and they named their daughter that...but we refer to them as Corliss Sr. and Corliss Jr...

Re: DH and baby naming...
Just on this post alone you can see that there are ALOT of John's in this world so we didn't want to add to it!!
Especially since I was pregant at the same time w/ 2 friends & all the daddies-to-be were named John!!!
My husband didn't want it either. One of my friends DID have a boy & he is another Johnnie!!

Re: DH and baby naming...
No JR. for us. I love the name Scott but I don't want a JR. Scott didn't care either way. I wouldn't mind using the name Scott as a middle name for another boy someday.

Re: DH and baby naming...
I like my hubby's name, but not enough to give it to my child Actually, Paul is Jeff's middle name, but that's just a coincidence - not the reason we picked Paul for our son.

Re: DH and baby naming...
Definately not for us. Tom is a junior now and all it does is cause problems. We get his father's mail. The credit reports are always screwed up. It's just a big headache.
When we finally get blessed with a child the name will be as far from Thomas as possible

Re: DH and baby naming...
Steve wants a namesake but not a Jr. If it's a boy we will name him Steven and his middle name will be in memory of his best friend and fellow firefighter who was killed on 9/11

Re: DH and baby naming...
Michelle W. that is really nice
Mark does not want a junior at all. We do plan on his middle name being the middle name b/c it is after his grandfather.

Re: DH and baby naming...
AL is undecided about whether or not he would want our son to have his name. He claims he'd need to see the baby first, but I've been slowly trying to get him away from that idea.
Al is a junior, with a poor name - Alfred Helmut! His parents call him junior - which I hate. The rest of his family call him alfred - also not great! He's the second son, his brother is Richard Theodore (named after his grandfathers).
Aside from not being a fan of the duplicate name thing, I really don't like names Alfred or Helmut!

Re: DH and baby naming...
DH is a junior and I already said if we had a boy, the tradition will end with him, not to mention that I hate his name (Donald). But we agreed that we would use his middle name (Robert) for the baby's middle name.
