As long as you love it who cares? Be it a 'warmer' stone or a bigger one! Go with what you love and don't worry about pleasing/displeasing others.

im not worried what anyone thinks...

just trying to see what color most girls have...maybe if you all have the same as mine, then it will help me with my decision!

lol i am a very indecisive person!

fh just has a little extra money and wanted to do something nice for me, since we are not having a huge wedding anymore, so he offered to change the ring up a bit!

Re: diamond color

FH and I did a lot of research on diamonds, one thing you should know is that the letter color is somewhat meaningless due to grading systems. A D could like more like an F, a great H could have been mislabeled as an E, etc...

Where you definitely want to put your money is in the cut and clarity, to a non-perfect extent!

Re: diamond color

I would look at pricescope.com -- a great forum for discussing diamonds and rings.

My FH and I discussed either getting a larger diamond than the one he proposed with or putting the money into a one of a kind setting. (Background- My diamond is colorless and Ideal/Superior in all the categories. It's one carat and it was the stone he proposed with so I have a special affinity for it.)

So, I went with the setting...I had a handmade platinum and melee diamond setting made. In the end, my setting was 1/ 2 the price of my diamond itself but well worth it!

I know a lot of my friends said that they would have gone with a bigger rock but for me I wanted a piece of jewelry that would be handed down for generations and always thought of as classic and timeless. To me, nothing says that quite like a gorgeous, simple, one carat.

But the great thing about diamonds and settings is that everyone has different taste and ideas so I'm sure between myself and the other ladies here, you are in good design hands :) GOOD LUCK!

And btw, not a shabby decision to have to ponder, eh?

I agree completely. While there are some gorgeous elaborately designed rings out there, I got the brilliant cut round 1 carat solitaire that I've always wanted, and I hope for it to be passed down to my grandchildren and theirs!

Yes, but even GIA now has competition from EGL, IGI, and AGS among others. And there is very little consistency between all these companies.

That's why it is SO important to do a lot of research, ask a lot of questions, and look at your diamond via independent appraisers and ideal scopes, if you can.

Exactly! I have a round brilliant, as well. It sparkles like sin and I imagine someday when I'm no longer here a great great great granddaughter of mine will be wearing it!

Re: diamond color

I was pricing out my wedding band and was sure I wanted an eternity band. Especially since the difference between a half way and full way was a few hundred dollars. But they advised against it because as a young bride not having had children with weight gain/loss to have an eternity band resized is quite complicated. Maybe an anniversary ring! Or for your baby their birthstone and diamond alternate in eternity! Just my opinion! But I also think there is something magical about your engagement ring no matter the size, shape etc. Its the one he proposed with! I say keep it and save for an anniversary ring :o)

your ring is gorgeous...i wouldn't change a thing for all the reasons previous posters stated.

take the money and have him buy you a gorgeous wedding day gift (necklace, earrings, bracelet) - maybe have him do it with a blue diamond or sapphire and diamond for your something blue...

I looove your ring I think it's perfect! If I didn't wear gloves all day that's exactly what I would have wanted!

Re: diamond color

My FH, too hasn't told me any specs really, except that mine is VVSI (I think that's what it's called). I think your ring is absolutely beautiful butif you want to change something, I would keep the size since it's pretty big already, and just upgrade the clarity.. you could always get it appraised to find out what the clarity is...

To me, quality is more important than size. My FH asked me before we got engaged what was more important to me, and I definitely said the quality. My ring isn't that big but people ALWAYS comment on how much it sparkles and how 'white' it looks.

I definitely know some people who have huge rings but they look cloudy, almost dirty... not that they aren't beautiful but I notice weird things like that. I would rather have a smaller diamond that is of great quality!

I agree with some of the other girls, instead of changing your ring why not get a gorg band! you can do eternity to match your setting!

Edit: typo

bigger diamond - with the naked eye you can hardly tell the difference btwn them unless its a really yellowish tint

I TAKE IT BACK - YOUR RING IS GORGEOUS!! AND BIG!! I wouldnt change a thing

i'd go with a bigger size (unless your current quality / color is crappy). Nobody would ever notice a change in quality - people get impressed with the size because they can actually see it.

I disagree. You can tell when girls have these tremendous rings, but they look dirty and yellow. I am more impressed by the quality and sparkle and shine of a ring than I am of the size. Of course, size is nice to have to, but if I had a normal sized center stone, i would upgrade it for the color.

it seeems that we have almost the same ring, except my band is pave 3/4 of the way around. My ring is a D color.

ita!!! i get complimented on my ring color all the time!! Its color D, im happy with the size as well... but if i were in your situation id def upgrade quality make SO much of a difference, youre ring will look bigger if the color and clarity are top notch

ITA. Quality and color are really most important, unless of course you want to go from, say, E to D. In that case I just don't think it would show. But make sure you think long and hard before changing the ring that FH proposed to you with, unless you're genuinely unhappy with it. I'm way too sentimental to do that!

I 100% percent agree with this. If you have a diamond with an excellent cut, but is an I color, it could like like a D and be gorgeous. Also, You could have a colorless diamond but if the cut and clarity of it isnt all that good its gonna look like crap. The Cut and clarity is more important than the color, those 2 factors will increase or decrease the look of the diamond more than the color would. Anybody who knows diamonds would tell you that.

I agree but only to an extent. I wouldn't say that the letters are meaningless, but I definitely agree that if the clarity is poor, the diamond's going to look awful. And the cut gives it the shimmer. Some cuts make the diamond look dull, while others make it look brilliant. Bottom line, do your research.
