DIAMONDS

Does anyone know what the best color & clarity is for an engagement ring?

Re: DIAMONDS

Well, there is a grading scale...

Flawless being highest on the clarity scale
D being the best on the color scale

It's hard to say, because it is based on how much your FH can afford... The best color to get is F, but they are hard to find and very $$$$ Most nice rings are a G and a clarity SI

well, FH told me from all his looking that when he asked the jewlers this they all told him that they believe that there is really no such thing as a perfect diamond..

a certified D color diamond with an internally flawless clarity is the best diamond you can get..

E is amazing!

Mine is an F and it's absolutely brilliant...

Re: DIAMONDS

I've been told that most people have diamonds somewhere from D to H in color....E is very good.

Clarity also ranges but FH knew that I wouldn't be happy with anything less than S1 b/c then you can start to see flaws with the naked eye.

D and Flawless or IF are the best.

Dont forget Cut. You want to look for Color, Cut and Clarity.

A bad cut on a high color and clarity stone takes away from its brilliance.

When you go to the jeweler it is hard to see the difference sometimes. Unless you have eagle eyes like me...my fiance was pretty amazed at my eyes.

Re: DIAMONDS

As Fran M said, don't overlook the importance of cut. A bad cut can make a D, IF diamond look like crap, while a very good cut can make and I, SI2 diamond look amazing.

Most jewelers would agree that cut is the most important quality as a good cutter can bring out the fire and brilliance.

Re: DIAMONDS

My diamond is a J - you can see a slight yellow tint in it. Most importantly, however, the diamond was my FI's great grandmother's, so I am so flattered to be given a family heirloom. I just look at it and tell me (incorrectly) that the diamond is a bit yellow because it's been in the family for over 100 years!
