Did anyone do just the first names on the inner envelope?
Putting 'Mr. & Mrs. Smith' on the inner envelopes seems so formal and redundant after the outside envelope says 'Mr. & Mrs. Todd Smith'

I put Jane & John Smith on the inners.
Is this something you write in yourself or is it printed by whomever does your invites? Sorry I'm an invite noob!

Personally I think it looks nice just blank on the inner envelopes...we received an invitation yesterday that had our 1st names written in what looked like black marker and it just looked terrible.

i did do the first names on the inner envelopes unless there was confusion as to what someones name was. my finaces family is a bit strange, but anyway I did it and everyone thought it was a nice touch. I also made sure that if any of my guests were bringing a date I knew there name as well. It will be nice for seating. Beth

I did 'Mr. & Mrs. Smith' on the inners - it was easier for me (I did my own printing) just to erase the address and hit print and plus I had to think of all of their first names (parent's friends, family who we haven't see in a while)

I think that the inner envelope is the last and final word on who is invited to the wedding. So if your name isn't on the inner envelope, you're not invited. So leaving it blank might be confusing, especially for a family with children.
ETA: changed my wording, so had to edit for grammar

Re: Did anyone do just the first names on the inner envelope?
The proper way to do the invites is full names on the outer envelope and first names only on the inner envelope.
The purpose of putting first names on the inner envelope is to clarify exactly who is invited. For example, if you put 'Mr & Mrs Smith and Family' on the outer envelope, the inner envelope would say 'John, Mary, Billy, Bobby, and Katie' so there is no confusion as to what 'and family' means.
Also, if you invited a single person WITHOUT a guest, it's good to put their name on the inner envelope so they see it's just them invited and not a guest.
This helps avoid phone calls of 'who exactly is invited?' 'can i bring a guest?' 'can our son bring his girlfriend?' etc.
People are stupid...they need it to be as clear as possible. lol

First names and Nick-names. People loved it. We also did 'Gramma and Papa' and all the affectionate family terms. It added a nice personal touch.

I only did inner envelopes for the people who had other family members in their house invited. I did first & last.

I went by how well we knew them. If we called them by their first names I put that. Aunts/Uncles and people we did not know we did Mr. and Mrs. If kids were invited or guests with them we wrote their names. I printed up clear labels and that's how I wrote it on the envelope
