Did anyone else feel like this?

Ok well I moved into my new place w/ FI is this wkd. He has been living here for about 2 mons now and I just moved in now. Im extremely happy to finally be living w/ him but Im feeling kinda down too. I think its just really hard to get used to the idea that this is my new home and not w/ my parents anymore. Plus, I REALLY miss my dog and I cant stop thinking about him.
Did anyone else have a hard time adjusting to their new life living w/ FI? Im so glad though I did this now before the wedding so I can be settled in.
Thoughts???

I totally felt like this, I actually move intot he apratment that was in FMILs house, so i felt like I was invading her space, plus I went from my space to our spacve, so it was a really difficult transition for me, but it has been almost 2 years, and it has been great, I am very lucky to have a fantastic FMIL and she made me feel very welcome. Don't worry, it may take a few months to adjust, but just think of it as this. Now everyday you get to come home to the man of your dreams! It's not so bad then! haha

I'm expecting to feel that way at first. But FH and I have been waiting so long to finally have our own place that I think I'll be more excited than anything else.

Re: Did anyone else feel like this?

Just in general moving out of parents' home is very emotional...you remember everything from when you were a little girl and all the memories and just having your parents there for you & of course Luca!!!! I know that was the hardest adjustment for me, leaving Dakota....but also.....

Moving in w/ FH can be a HUGE adjustment...don't be surprised if it takes a number of months to get into the routine of living together. It's a much smaller space than you are used to (probably), you have to figure out who is doing what chore-wise, you have to get used to less personal space & alone time...its a big adjustment period. It's stressful and can be overwhelming at first. Hang in there, things do get better & much better now than after the wedding.

I can relate though....fm me if you want to talk.

Re: Did anyone else feel like this?

I have been on my own for a long time so I didnt have to make the same type of adjustments. FH was always with me in my other apartment before we moved in together about 2 months ago. It may or may not be good for everyone but if you can do it, I suggest it. It does take time to adjust as Cindy says. But if you can iron out those kinks BEFORE the wedding, (unless your religious beliefs or anything else dictates otherwise) by moving in together first, I feel it helps. As Momma Goldi always says 'You never know a man til you live with him.' And she was right.

The positives DO outweigh the negatives though. There is a great division of labor. You share in everything and you DO have your privacy with each other. That above all else makes a word of difference.

I haven't moved in w/ FI yet, but it's starting to hit that I won't be living at home anymore and it's making me upset

Thanks for posting! It makes me feel better to know I am not the only one upset about moving. My parents reconciled, and are moving back in together, in my dads house in florida 2 weeks after the wedding! I have lived in this house my entire life, and when I leave, I can never come back, this is it for me, my last thanksgiving here, my last christmas, I cry about it all the time! I cant wait to live with fh full time, but thinking about leaving where I am breaks my heart

Wow - I wish I had a relationship with my family that some of you have! I envy you all - I moved out when I was 19... lived with roomates until I was 22, then lived on my own til I lived with my ex from ages 23-28, then lived on my own for a year, then dated my FH, we moved in like immediately (I'm embarassed to say - practcally the 1st day together!)

I guess I was always independent - my parents divorced when I was 6, never was too close with them, my dad and I have gotten a bit closer recently and he is paying for the wedding, which I am so grateful for - I love him dearly, and I appreciate my stepmom (in my life since I was 9) but I never had a sense of home, or not being home - wish I did sometimes though!

I did go through something similar when I moved in with my FH. For me, as happy as I was to be really moving that that next level with him, at the same time I was sad about the certain freedoms I was giving up. It took a couple of weeks for me as well as my FH to adjust. Now, I couldn't imagine living anywhere else. I think what you're going through is normal and it will get better.

Re: Did anyone else feel like this?

My FI and I were living on our own for a long time before moving to Long Island. He got here about 1 month before me and I felt quite odd moving in with him because he had already set it up as 'his' place. Most of the furniture was where he wanted it. Not that I cared where it was, but I felt like I was not my space because he was already there.

My advice is to set some things up yourself. I felt much better once I started to put pictures up and some of my things out where I could see them. Good luck!

Re: Did anyone else feel like this?

I can relate to much of what you ladies are describing. I lived in a 3 bedroom apt downstairs from my parents . It was me and my 2 cats. When my parents were selling, my FI and I bought a co-op. Even though I was excited about moving in together, I was really broken up about leaving my parents. I felt like I was moving to a different state (They're in Bklyn & I moved to Queens). It was very hard. I had to live w/his family for 3 mos while we were renovating our co-op. That was not easy. I went from having 3 bedrooms to myself to being locked in one bedroom w/my FI & 2 cats. We then moved into our 2 br co-op which is not very roomy. It get's easier though, you adjust. I still miss seeing my family as often as I used to but life keeps me busy. You'll adjust. Give it time & allow yourself to grieve...it's normal

Re: Did anyone else feel like this?

I feel the same way. I'm an only child and used to having my own space. FH and are probably going to end up getting a one-bedroom coop which will not be very spacious. I also feel guilty about leaving my parents because our house recently burned down and they are living in a trailer in our driveway while I am currently living in the house in the basement, which was only partially damaged by the fire. It's going to be a huge adjustment for me but my plan is to ease into it so that it won't be such a big change after the wedding. When we close on the coop, I'll move somem stuff in and do some nesting, decorating. I'll stay there one or two nights a week. Hopefully, that way, the transition will be easier. Also, when our house gets rebuilt, my parents say they are going to keep the apartment in the basement for me incase I want to sleep home some nights when FH works 24 hour shifts at the firehouse.

Re: Did anyone else feel like this?

I am going through this now! We have had our house for 2 months now & we were doing the weekend stay there! This weekend FH moved in permantly & is now living there all alone...The original plan was for me to move in sometime in December...I am having such a hard time leaving home though! My parents' & I have a very strong relationship & I know that once I move out, then I am officially 'not a little girl anymore' Moving in with FH is something I can't wait to do & we have been waiting for this for such a long time! We agreed yesterday that I would finish 2005 off at my parent's & that we will begin our new life together in our house Jan 1st, 2006!

It was so hard to leave the house last night & see FH sitting on the couch in his PJ's!!!

I know I am going to feel like that too. I love it here. I love my family and my dogs. Its going to be a very difficult transition. I am not just moving into a house with FI, but I am moving to a different country - England. It's exciting, but will also be difficlt. I know I will feel very homesick. I want to bring my dog with me, but right now animals have to be quarantined for 6 months that's supposed to change so we will see. If it does I'm taking my baby girls. I'll need an 'old' companion!

Re: Did anyone else feel like this?

Part of me is THRILLED to be moving in with FH, but another is a little frightened. I still live at home so the idea of a mortgage is frightening. Plus my commute will go from 5 minutes to 40 (ugh!). I already told my 'rents that if it is snowstorming I am going to stay with them.

I'm definitely going to miss my mom ALOT, and my pets (I really want to take one of my cats with me, but it isn't going to happen ).
