Did anyone else have mixed feelings about registering?
We are going to register today and getting my FI to agree was like pulling teeth. He says that he feels like we are begging for gifts. Why register when u can afford to buy the stuff yourself? Did anyone else have this issue?

Yes! My FH felt the same way; howver, when I came home from my bridal shower with all those gifts- he was awed! He thougth it was so cool. Also, he had a darn good time playing with the zapper at Fortunoffs. People are going to get you gifts-they might as well be ones you want!

It may seem like it but people are going to buy you stuff anyway. you might as well have them get something that is your taste rather than their taste. I recently went to a shower were the bride got 6 Brita water pitchers and like 4 irons I think we lost count after like he 5 or 6th toaster.
It is just going to make your life easier returning the stuff too. Most places as long as they take the item off the registery you get the price the person paid for it. If it dosnt come off a registery you get the lowest selling price which we all know we have never seen a bunt pan for $2.68 at macys.

Yes and we are not going to do it.
Although I do see why people elect to do so, we currently live in a small space and have no space for storage for extra 'stuff'. We have everything we need now, that will change once we buy a house. What we plan on doing is spread the word through family that we are saving for a down payment - if people ask what to give as a gift, family will state in some tactful way “a contribution to that down payment would be wonderful...”

No. But we're broke and po' and desperately need anything and everything for the house that FH just bought!! We don't even have a good knife. It's a sad thing when you can't even slice a tomato without sawing at it until beads of sweat form on your forehead. Our walls are completely bare and we drinko out of plastic cups everyday.
But I think that if I was in your position, I might feel a bit squeamish too about registering. Alot of people thought we should have registered for our e-party since we already had the house at that point (and back then we didn't even have a kitchen table either -- 2 metal folding chairs and little square folding table) but we even felt weird about that so we didn't.
But I still say do it. Register for the things you don't think you'll buy for yourself in the near future. Look around, I'm sure there are things that need to be replaced. Besides, people WANT to give you gifts! Have fun and just don't register for a million things at ten different stores and no one will think you're being greedy!!

I felt weird doing it, but once we started scanning away at Fortunoff, I got into it and had fun. People expect you to register, and as long as you register for items in all price ranges (not just expensive things), you aren't being obnoxious or inappropriate. Enjoy it! You only get to do it once.

We just started registering this weekend. Originally I was against it, but after receiving multiple blenders as engagement gifts, i think it's the way to go. However, I refuse to register for something I wouldn't buy myself.
