Did anyone else have to pay for hand cancelling?

They just charged FH .20 cents per invite to hand cancel!!!!! i thought they were charging him for the weight, but they charged him to hand cancel!!!!!!

that sounds wrong to me!

Sidenote, I now I have a RAM stamp on my wedding invitations. yes...a RAM...

ETA: oh yes, and they charged him .20 cents to hand cancel...and then made him hand cancel them himself.

I didn't hand cancel my invites, but .20 an invite is insane to me

Are you sure the $0.20 was for hand canceling? I saw your other post. Are your invites bulky, or do they have anything in them that they are too thick to go through the sorting machine? Mine were (due to the rhinestone brooch) so I had to pay an extra $0.20. But that had nothing to do with hand canceling.

Nope, they did it for free at the Babylon Village PO. That is crazy, but I have heard of charging to hand cancel...but I thought it was like .05, not .20!!

Nope, it was for the hand cancel. Our Invites were normal sized with nothing fancy on them (just 1 lil ribbon). When FH first called me he didn't explain it very well (just said it cost us .20 more) I thought it was the weight, so right then I freaked out because I weighed them before putting stamps on them. When he called back, he told me it was all for the hand cancel! Thats crazy! Now they're super fugly. he told me he was glad I didn't see them because I would be even more mad than i am now.

Um WAIT a second! I was literally just in Boston and went to buy stamps there. They told me that hand cancelling is free everywhere and if you are charged then that person should be reported. Told them I was from NY but they said it's across the board!

ITA - i also only had one tiny ribbon and it was a $.20 surcharge not for handcancelling but for it being non-machinable

ETA - they ran them through a machine on the receiving end anyway (even though they charged me and they were 'non-machinable'). love the usps.
