Did anyone go car shopping this weekend? If so,

If so, what are you considering.

I looked at the Passats and the Liberty. Just curious to know if anyone else is considering leasing.

If you're looking at the Liberty .. you should definitely look at the Sante Fe .. it's gotten much better ratings .. and it is a very nice SUV .. you get a lot for your money.

Hi Hearz, we went looking at Five Town Toyota. Long story short, they pretty much scammed us. Luckily we didnt buy into it.

Hey boosh!
Def NEVER buy a car from 5 towns- they are shady...Amity Toyota is much better... DH works for a dealership, so I get the inside scoop

Re: Did anyone go car shopping this weekend? If so,

Yeah it was a real mess. Basically what happened was we wanted to get a couple quotes so we can get a really good deal.

The guy showed us a 2003 Camry for $17,770, it had 11,000 miles on it. We have a trade in and he said that he would give us a $1,000 for us. Now our car is a 97 but its in excellent condition, I was expecting at least $2,000-$2,500 for it. So in the middle of giving us the quote, his phone rings and a 'guy' calls in saying that he shopped around and Toyota Five Town gave him the best deal and he is coming in to pick up his car. Then this sales guy says that this guy just got the last 2004 off the lot because they are selling like hot cakes. That sounded a little weird to me that this guy got the 'last'
2004 Camry on the lot?

So anyway, he wanted us to buy the car right then and there, so we go outside to talk and decide that we are going to tell the guy that we are going to sell our car on our own. He doesnt like that answer so he asks us what the problem is and we told him that we didnt like the amount of the trade, so he bounces it up to $1650. So just to get out of there, we tell him that well go home and get our car so we can do the deal. We just wanted out of there at that point because he was getting too
too pushy.

He then leaves us two messages on our answering machine, the first one asking 'Whats the holdup??' and then the second one saying that he'll give us $2,500 for our car. Hello??!! He didnt even see it and NOW all of a sudden he's going to give us $2,500????

The real kicker is my FIL reads the paper and finds the same car at the same dealership on sale for $13,000!!!!!! They were trying to sucker us in for $4,000 more!!

Re: Did anyone go car shopping this weekend? If so,

another discrepancy was that on the car, they posted a profile on the car from kelly's blue book. In the profile, it listed the value as about $18,100. Tonight, we did our own web search on the same site and now the value was about $17,000. So, something is not right.

The big problem is, we just want to go to a few dealerships and compare deals, not get pushed into buying anything. This guy was really really pushy. We kept saying that we wanted to think about it and didn't want to trade our car in and wanted to sell to a private party and the guy WOULD NOT LET US LEAVE. We had to tell him that we were interested and that we would go home and get our car so he could check it out and we could finalize the deal, just so we could get out of there. We even filled out a form so they could check our credit. They must be really desperate because the guy left us 2 messages and called a few other times, which we didn't answer because we knew that it was him.

Re: Did anyone go car shopping this weekend? If so,

VW cars are awful and their service is the worst!! I wanted a Beetle SO badly- it was like my dream car and I finally got one... I was so excited until I started having prolems with it constantly and had to fight with VW over fixing it. I actually had to go through the BBB and finally spoke with the owner before they would fix the problems. By the end of the three years I was so disgusted with everything I didn't even want to look at the car. I know several other people who have had problems both with the cars and service, and at various locations. Just sharing my experience- I would NEVER recommend anyone buying a VW.

I love the Liberty personally :) I have a Honda CRV though!

Re: Did anyone go car shopping this weekend? If so,

My best friend had a VW Beetle she wanted this car SO BAD... She Got it ( I think it was a 2000) She had so many problems with it. She traded it in and got a VW Golf And she is IN LOVE WITH IT, I have driven it also and I like it. I also work with someone had who bought a 2003 beetle and had problems with and it was only a few days old. I don't think All VW cars are bad but I would have to agree with the beetle. I think they made so many of them they are just poor quality!

Re: Did anyone go car shopping this weekend? If so,

I had a brand new vw beetle in 98. It was back at the dealership every three months (no exaggeration) for electrical problems. I was so frustrated and annoyed that I got the regional manager involved which didn't help he was a bigger a$$ then Donaldson's was. I traded in my vw after 18 mos for an infiniti which I would highly recommend. VW are horrible cars. I believe they were voted to be cars with the most problems.

Re: Did anyone go car shopping this weekend? If so,

I have had a 2003 VW Beetle for just about 2 years and i LOVE It! I have never had any problems with it, except for a broken windshield wiper when it got really icy and it got stuck to the windshield. The service I've gotten from them is excellent, and they have been really nice to deal with.
When my lease is up in 2 years, I plan on getting another one as well!

boosh & don.... I had MAJOR problems with 5 towns....just like the ones you are describing...they are very shady like that.....

I definately recommend Amity Toyota, and there are a couple more that are good...like Star Toyota in Bayside.

FM me if you want more details

Re: Did anyone go car shopping this weekend? If so,

we leased a civic this week...was cheaper than buying it (monthly payments) and while we dont outright OWN it...it is fine beacuse i really didnt want to build 'equity' in a depreciating asset. AND also, we figure in 3 years we will be in a MUCH better situation when getting our next car....

especially since it came as a surprise that we needed to get one at all
