At least initially? I have no time on the weekends and getting a friend or my mom to go shopping with me after work seems like such a burden on them.. Did anyone go shopping alone at first??

I did!! And I highly recommend it!! Not only did it work better scheduling wise, I found it much easier to initially find dresses that I liked. (not what everyone else liked) Once you find a few that you like, them bring the entourage and let them oooh and ahhh at you! If you bring other people with you the first time be prepared for many different opinions. I think that it is good to go by yourself and find dresses/styles that you really like and then bring the family back to help you make the final decision.

Re: Did anyone go dress shopping alone?
Yup. Practically every time I went. When I searched for dresses (about 4x), I went alone. When I found THE dress, I was alone. And even when I finally received the dress (this past Monday), I was alone. I plan on being alone once again, for my 2nd fitting (next week).
I'm assuming that you've gone alone, and you're feeling awkward. I did, too - still do. I wish that I could experience that joy with someone when the emotions arise, but it's difficult working with people schedules sometimes... and it has to get done, so I depend on myself and go alone.

I am so glad that I wasn't the only one that went alone. I went to Macy's by myself and the sales lady says you didn't bring anyone with you. Boy did I feel so great after that I felt so alone. I went to all the shops myself. I went to pick out my BM dresses myself.

Re: Did anyone go dress shopping alone?
the 1st dress I bought with a lot of help-
The 2nd one which is the one I plan on wearing -I picked out alone and brought in the help when I narrowed it down to a couple of them.
YOu may feel a bit strange alone because most people have someone with them but its not a bad idea for narrowing the field.

I see it this way: we're born alone, we die alone... we can surely shop alone...

I LOVED DRESS SHOPPING ALONE!! The only time you can really think about the dresses without comments from the peanut gallery!!

I did the first few times before I narrowed my choices down and brought my mom and sister. In my opinion, it made it a more peaceful experience. I liked experiencing it by myself.

COULDN'T AGREE MORE!!! I went once with my Mom, several times with my MOH.... and a few times alone. The times alone were really the best.

I went by myself. It was the best thing to do. I picked my dress than had my Mom come see it.

Re: Did anyone go dress shopping alone?
I guess I am the only one that dissagrees! I did go alone once, and it was the worse experience for me EVER! I actually left in tears.. .it takes a lot to get those dresses on and off, and having an extra hand to help you would really be nice! I guess what intially made me upset is that I life in Florida and my mom,etc are all in New York, so going by myself and seeing everyone else with their mother or sister made me feel a little sad that I didn't have my own family there to help me... I guess it also didn't help that the service at the salon I was at wasn't helping me either! But I do agree that you shouldn't have a big peanut gallery with you either! My sister is certainly no help- very opinionated.
So, I guess if you go to a nice salon where they are going to help you and make you feel comfortable, being alone may be more peaceful.... for me I just wanted more family support! :)

I agree and I did go alone
It was MY choice and my choice alone. Im not shy and didnt mind baring it all for a woman who has probably seen a lot of women undress for her. No issue there. Most places were very discreet.
I have no family here and no extra close friends so its not like I had a choice. I brought his sister once and Jann once AFTER I got my dress.. for that fellow 'ooh and ahh' feeling.
If I had to do it again and my family was around I hope I would have gone alone. I KNOW outside influences would have changed my mind.

Re: Did anyone go dress shopping alone?
Yes, all alone for narrowing it down. After I decided on a few, I brought a co-worker with me. I actually went to Kleinfelds alone (that sucked), but all the other times, I was happy to take my time and not get pressured into trying on stuff I knew I didn't like. Finally, after I was sure and bought it, I brought my MOH. First fitting, I brought my Mom and Dad who were in town for my shower.

Re: Did anyone go dress shopping alone?
in the beginning i used to go with groups of people, but then i started going alone on the way home from work and thats when i found the dress!!! i think its better to go alone, go through the dresses quickly and when you find the one- you can bring back all the people that matter to you

Re: Did anyone go dress shopping alone?
I went alone the first 2 times. I just get anxious at work. I think about my wedding at least 5 times an hour. As soon as I left work I would stop at a Bridal Store on my way home and I didn't have to wait for anyone or ask what their schedule is. The 3rd time my mom just happened to call me on my way out & she wanted to come meet me. That's when I found my dress. I will say my MOH got mad that I found the dress without her.-Needless to say , she got over it. I get things done when I'm alone.

Yes, I went alone. It was great! I would have not been able to make a decision with someone else with me.
