Did anyone lie about their wedding date when buying your gowns?

Original post by MissingTheBGene

I gave a full four week 'buffer' to the bridal salon and I was just curious if anyone else did this, and if you gowns came in on time, did you tell them you lied or did you just get your alterations done and stored the gowns at your house?

I figured I'd rather be safe than sorry, so I lied about my date, but now I'm not sure if it comes in (if it comes in on time or early) how I should handle it. I don't see hanging my gown at my house as a problem, but I was wondering if anyone did this and if you did anything in particular to protect/store it.

So far, my bridal salon has been really great about everything, so I actually feel bad about lying now, but everyone told me that it was best to do it. Since my BMs are getting their gowns there as well, we told them the same date.

Thanks for any info!

I gave them the real date, but they gave the designer a date of a month earlier.

I'm a bad liar. I told the truth. Hopefully it will be okay

I heard you should definitly lie about your date, even w/ the BM dresses. I'll be doing this as well. I don't mind hanging it in my house. (My aunt got married in the 80's and hung her humongous Princess Di style dress in an extra room in her house, so I know I can!!) You never know what can happen- my friend ordered her gown from David's Bridal, and everytime they called her to let her know it was in and she should come down the dress came out of the bag brand new and stained or irregular, completely unwearable and this went on until a week before her wedding. So she went down there multiple times, and it's very far away, only to be even more stressed out each day!!!

me too. I was afraid if I told them earlier they might have had to 'rush' the order. I only ordered it 8 months before my wedding date.

I'm telling them October when it's actually beginning of November. Since I'm ordering soon, I'm not too worried since my wedding is 1 yr away.

I have a ways to go before that - but I think I am going to lie about it.... its sooo much better to be safe than sorry and its just a small little white lie

I was so excited when I ordered the dress, I forgot to lie. but when I saw my receipt afterwards, I saw that the saleslady had put my wedding date as 3 weeks earlier than it is anyway.

I originally gave them the actual date, and then when they called to say my dress wouldn't be ready when they said it was, and would be coming in until the following month, my mom lied and told them the wedding date had been moved up.

Then POOF, suddenly my dress was available within two weeks.

Unbelievable...

I gave them the real date. I am glad I did because I had to postpone a fitting, and would not have predicted that, amd it would have seemed strange if I had lied and then postponed the fitting.

For the BM dresses, I wish I had lied. I'm having problems with them. I hate how these places treat the BMs like their dresses don't matter!

I haven't bought it yet but when I do I'm going to lie.

I lied and told them it was 2 weeks earlier. I had no problem with my dress hanging at my parents for 2 weeks... BUT... I lost so much weight in the 2 weeks before the wedding that the dress ended up being to big for me the day of the wedding! So be careful!
