Re: Did anyone NOT...

I research it both ways throughly for months. Finally I decided to book though a TA for two reasons 1) if anything went wrong she would handle it. and 2) she was able to get us upgrades. For example, three weeks prior to the wedding she called me and said she was able to upgrade our one hotel in hawaii to a five star hotel. Things like that I didn't have access too.

eta: we went to hawaii, 3 islands, two weeks, we had 6 different flights and 3 different hotels, so i felt like it was alot to do on my own.

i didnt... but i might have if i we were booking something like bora bora and morea, or europe... somewhere that we would need several hotels and flights and stuff...

I did not use a travel agent. I called AAA and they wanted $1,000+ for the same exact flights, same rooms, etc.

Do your research!!!!!!!! I'm going to use that extra money for a very nice piece of jewelry

ETA - I'm going to Aruba so it was just flight & hotel.

i did not use a travel agent- in my opinion with all the online resources we have there are no need for agents.

i agree with Ang. I did a trip to Greece and Turkey a few years ago without a TA and it was totally hectic. I used a TA to book my HM to bora bora, and it was a really pleasant planning experience.

We didn't use a travel agent for our trip to Thailand. We get Travel & Leisure and we able to book everything through websites we are familiar with.

i researched for a long time with both TAs and online. we're going on a cruise then disney. I booked my cruise through TA because they were less expensive then everything else online because that was just hotel and stuff and cheaper online.

I didnt. Turns out you can sometimes get better rooms/rates if you call the hotels directly.

I would say use a travel agency if you are NOT going to be in one hotel the entire time. We used one for a cruise (but she gave us a discount because she always does plans for Fh's parents, I'm sure if she didn't know them it would have been jacked).

I didn't use one either, and we ended up getting a really good deal on our flights

We're using a travel agent, so just in case anything goes wrong we have someone on our side. She had also personally been to several of the resorts we were looking at, so I liked having her opinion.

I'm also hoping she gets us some upgrades since its our HM

This. I would not make a trip that was THIS important without a travel agent.

You sure can do it by yourslef. But in case anything goes wrong you have soeone on your side.

We always use a travel agent when we travel. There are a few advantages. They can get you a really good deal and you dont have to worry about anything! They do all the leg work for you. You don't pay them, they take there cut from the place you book at. So there is no extra charges headed your way. Somethings they can get 'agent only' deals where you can get a few extra perks like an upgrade in room or something also those lines. We've booked online and just felt it to be such a hasle. You go the agent to book and that's it. They email you everything you need. Or you can go pick up tickets etc. if you want. I highly recommend using one. Especially with all the wedding planning, less stress is always a good thing

i Didn't I got a better deal on my own. DH and I had booked the same trip the summer before we got married and canceled it when we got engaged . The airfare I got on my own was half the cost of what i had through a travel agent

We didn't. I just researched and planned everything like crazy. We went to Rome, took a train to Venice, then a cruise to the Greek Isles, then back to Venice. Everything was PERFECT!!!
