I dont think I am cus I have soo many out of town people that I doubt they wont just show if they are traveling there.

Do people really say they are comming and not show up? isn't that like really rude?

Half of my wedding was from California and yes people didnt show up and they even bought airline tickets. My wedding weekend occured during the really bad rainstorms and flooding in Texas and the mid-west, so all the West coast flights into the East coast were being just cancelled if not delayed or diverted into another airport. So many if my guests almost didnt make it, with four of them having their flight cancelled and couldnt get on another flight to make it on time for my wedding, so we paid for four no shows but it wasnt their fault.

that sux! i'm afraid the same thing will happen with us, with all of FH's family being from Cali and half the bridal party. oh the joys of cross-country travel.

Honestly that was the last thing i thought would happen b/c in NY the weather was gorgoues and then i turned on CNN to see that there were horrible storms in the mid-west. It was surely the last thing i wanted to deal with...mine and DH's cellphone would not stop ringing with people who couldnt get into NY. In the end four people couldnt attend but i think it couldve been alot worse. Ill keep my fingers crossed for you that the weather hold up on your day!

I would check with your hall before doing this. Some halls charge and extra fee per person for people who are added last minute... I know mine does. So needless to say - I won't be doing this (although I'd like to)

My banquet manager actually suggested that I do this. The hall said if there was anyone that could be questionable, don't include them. So what I'll do is keep the table sizes the same (i.e. put 8 people at a 10 person table), and if the 'iffys' show up, there will still be room for them. If not, well those other guests will be more comfortable!

This is exactly what I'm planning to do.

Thats what one of my friends did- the flakey people she accounted for and had them ' seated' at the right tables but didnt give the cards to the hall. They just put them out at the CH.

The iffy people had a seat at a table and the ones that didnt show, the people at those tables just had more room.

Holy crap - I never even thought about doing that. Although we're only inviting maybe 15 people over our minimum. I have one of those families where if you invite 60, you get 58. I'd rather pay for 5 no-shows than 5 over minimum.

Very helpful info ladies!

We gave them our exact minimum...no more no less. I wouldnt really sweat the placecards-they arent going to sit there and count them, besides they want you to have MORE people then you have alotted for. Make the placecards and put them out

What my girlfriend did was give them a 10 less than had RSVP's. Later on during the CH, I went and put the placecards for those people on the table. As it turned out, 10 people who DID RSVP didn't show, but 10 people who DIDN't RSVP showed. It worked out in the end...

But I will def. be giving a lower headcount, my family is flakey...

but then how did you let th hall know they had to set up extra place settings?

You know, I'm not really sure, she got married 5 years ago! But I think she just let the maitre d know and they set it up quickly. Know one even noticed, it wasn't a big deal.

I'm under my minimum so it doesn't matter. But I also think I'll have a lot of no-shows so I think it's a good idea & would do it if I had to.

I gave my hall a lower estimate but I gave them placecards which included everyone's name as well as a list of people with everyone's names including those I didn't count in the final count. The hall didn't check and the people I thought weren't going to show up, didn't show up but a few people who didn't actually send in an RSVP but FMIL said weren't coming, showed up! In the we wound up paying for only 1 person who didn't show up.
