Yes. I plan on undercounting by 6 people, those that I feel are really iffy about attending . Do not give the RH place cards for these guests. You'll have to come up with a seating arrangement if these people do show up, and also have a credit card to pay for them.
Got this tip from a recent groom who undercounted by 10 - and only had 2 of those 10 show up.

I can understand sort of why you would want to do this but if I was one of the people you fell 'iffy' about and I showed up and there was no seat for me I'd be pretty upset either at you or at the hall. It makes the hall look bad or you for thinking that I wasn't coming so didn't provide a seat for me. JMO

What my girlfriend did was give them a 10 less than had RSVP's. Later on during the CH, I went and put the placecards for those people on the table. As it turned out, 10 people who DID RSVP didn't show, but 10 people who DIDN't RSVP showed. It worked out in the end...
But I will def. be giving a lower headcount, my family is flakey...

Just to clarify.... The 'iffy' people are the ones that RSVP yes and then don't show up. .

I would but i'd be too afraid that they would actually show and not have seats...Even if you lower it by 10 and 2-4 ppl show up that leaves for an awkward situation

We're not doing this - WAY too much hassle.
Besides that, we're under our minimum - so it doesn't matter.

I understand that but how do you explain it to them when they show up that they do not have a seat???

My banquet manager actually suggested that I do this. The hall said if there was anyone that could be questionable, don't include them. So what I'll do is keep the table sizes the same (i.e. put 8 people at a 10 person table), and if the 'iffys' show up, there will still be room for them. If not, well those other guests will be more comfortable!

I really wouldn't cut it too much... I would be so insulted if they RH was setting up a table for me b/c I wasn't counted on coming.... Plus what about CP and favors...do you just not have them set up for these people??
Not a big fan of the idea

our BM told us when we give them the final count to exclude 5 people, but still provide enough favors/place cards/programs, etc for those people and then they will give us the final count of how many meals were served, i believe at the end of the night. hopefully it'll work out well.

Yes. I have 2 friends that are pregnant and due on my wedding day. If they can make it, they will be told what table to sit at by other friends who know the deal and will ask for chairs. I'll pay for them day of.
At my friend's wedding, she undercounted by 5. She told family members to spot check for missing guests as everyone filed into the hall. Her fam then asked the wait staff to remove the empty chairs of the no-shows and bring it over to their table as their own seat. The 5 spot-checkers knew where they were sitting so they knew that they would not have a chair waiting for them to make up for the no shows. Sounds complicated but it was really easy.

Yes! Absolutely! Imade this mistake and didnt, and we had 30 less people than our minimum on our contract! Since our BM was the most nicest women ever she actually re-did our contract two days before our wedding and put the exact head count we had! She was a doll!
Definitly give a lower head count! You can always add more people later!!! Cant stress this enough.

You just let them know 2-5 days before your wedding day. By that time you already have a good idea if these people are coming or not. Also all halls usually have entrees and seating ready for 5 people above your minimum, thats what it says in my contract.

I would be afraid to do this b/c I'm not sure how it would work with seating arrangements and stuff. I would be afraid they would get to the RH with no place to sit.

Yeah, but sometimes stuff happens....people get sick, can't get a baby sitter, missed their flight, all sorts of stuff can come up. And yes, some people are just rude and don't think anything of it.

Half of my wedding was from California and yes people didnt show up and they even bought airline tickets. My wedding weekend occured during the really bad rainstorms and flooding in Texas and the mid-west, so all the West coast flights into the East coast were being just cancelled if not delayed or diverted into another airport. So many if my guests almost didnt make it, with four of them having their flight cancelled and couldnt get on another flight to make it on time for my wedding, so we paid for four no shows but it wasnt their fault.
