Did anyone paint their kitchen cabinets?

Instead of having my cabinets refinished, we are thinking about painting them and then in a few years have the kitchen redone.

Anyhow, I was wondering if anyone has any experience with how well the paint holds up, since being used every day they will get more banged up than say a wall or something.

I am doing that now.

you must clean the cabinets really well first, we sanded down any heavy paint drips or knicks on the doors, then primed twice, then put on 2 coats of high gloss paint. The high gloss is easy to clean and it should hold up pretty good.

One more note...our cabinets were already painted in white, so we are just giving them a new fresh look!!

Good Luck!

Yes, I did and it's a great way to get a new look for a low cost. I sanded mine first and then primed and then painted. I did a distressed look with two colors. So therefore, they were a lot of work but came out nice.
I am no longer in that house - and the new house we bought had old dark cabinets again. I haven't gotten around to painted these yet - we too are throwing around the idea of getting new ones. But... if it's going to be in a year or so - I'm painting them... it makes such a difference - you will see.
Good Luck and let us know how they turn out.

Thanks for the input. Makes me feel better about the decision. MIL & my mom both hate the idea, so I was starting to doubt myself.
