Did anyone pick a pediatrician.............

..that wasn't affiliated with the hospital you were giving birth at?
I was told by my dr that I should pick a pediatrician that is affiliated with the hospital I will have the baby at and that I can use the other dr after. They said that if you don't have a dr that works at that hospital, the hospital will assign one for you. They said you shoud avoid that.

I used my doc. from when I was a baby. He wasnt associated with Southampton Hospital (where Emma was born). When she was born she saw the on call ped. The ped. she saw was the head ped. at her practice. I was not worried at all. As soon as she came home from the hospital I did have to take her to her ped. so he could examine her for himself.

She did come in one day then the next day she said hi... I didnt recognize her. I had no idea she was the same person from the day before... but I did have morphine and Percoset running through my system.

All in all I had no problem with it.

Molly's ped was not part of the hospital. I think it is odd to pick a ped then switch 2 days later JMO, but if I had to do it all over again I would not deliver at NUMC anyway.

My ped was not affiliated with the hospital. It was not a problem...my OB requested his family's ped (affiliated with hospital) to check on the baby so it was fine. I just made an appointment with my regular ped when I got home...as long as the baby is healthy I don't see any reason why you couldn't use the hospital ped for the few checks they make on the baby. Maybe you can ask your OB which ped he or she recommends at the hospital - then just request that one...
