Did anyone put an earlier time for the church on their invite?
Original post by Regal Beagle
If the church ceremony starts at 3 would you write 2:30 on the invite?
I don't want people coming in late!
Thanks

I put the exact time - no one was late. Not even me. But I still didn't walk down the aisle for a half an hour b/c the organist was late

My ceremony is set to start at 11am but on my invitation it reads 10:30 - I know people will be late and it gives me 30 minutes cushion

my ceremony is 1130 and i put 11 on the invites...because i KNOW our friends and family...i rather be safe then have to kill them because they're walking in while i'm walking down the aisle

I put the exact time. People should be mature enough to realize that a 3pm invite mean a 3pm start. There is no grace period. I am not waiting for anyone. Latecomers will just miss out.

I put 1/2 hr. earlier b/c I am on a tight schedule and I know people are always late!! Those that I know are really good with time-I may tell them but I don't want to wait for others on that day!!

I put the correct time . . . if people come late they miss out. I do not want people who know how to follow directions to be sitting there for 30 minutes thinking we are starting late. This happened at a wedding I went to and I was quite unhappy.
I agree! My church is at 2 and I put 2 and if people aren't there by then its their problem. Ive been to weddings where we sat for 1/2 hr to 40 min waiting and it was very annoying.

My church starts at 3:30 and I put 3:00 on the invite. My FH family is usually late and I don't want him getting upset if they are late to the ceremony.

No, my ceremony starts at the time indicated on the invitation. If someone arrives late, that's their problem, not mine.
I think it's rude to make the guests that do show up on time wait around for 30 mins. I've been to more than one wedding where this was done and guests were NOT happy at all. To be honest, if you do this at a church wedding, people will assume you were just really late (and they don't appreciate it).

I would put 230 if you are on a tight sched, this way at 3pm sharp you can be on your way down the aisle, or your bp at least. I have heard of many girls doing this.

Normally I would agree however my FH husband's family is notoriously late. Several of them were very late to the engagement party and he was very upset about it. I am not going to let that ruin his day..so I'm giving them extra time. (without then knowing it) I have of course told most of my family & friends the correct time so not everyone is waiting around. But sometimes there are reasons behind why people do this.

My ceremony was at 11:30 and I put 11 so people would be there on time.

You know the people that you are inviting and know if they are punctual or not. If the majority are not then put the ceremony time 30 minutes earlier. If the majority is good with time then put the actual time.
FYI there may be some churches that may requiring couples to give an extra check as an agreement that the ceremony will start in time. If the ceremony starts late (usually 15 minutes) they get to keeo the extra check. This is being done at our church because ceremonies were starting late and causing a backup for other ceremonies that were there on time.

Re: Did anyone put an earlier time for the church on their invite?
For a church wedding I've come to realize that it's not a good idea to put an earlier time. Honestly, there ARE people who know to be there 15-30 minutes before the written time so they will be super annoyed if the ceremony was actually set to start a half hour later - they could be sitting there for 45min-1hour!!!! Talk about unhappy guests!
I agree with this...also, in our church, there are christenings, so the guest who comes just a bit early compared toreal time would be OK but compared to a made up earlier time could walk into that celebration....and be confused!

I'm getting married at the hall and was told that I should make it a 1/2 hour earlier. This way everyone will be there for the ceremony.

I agree. A mature adult would realize that a 3pm start time is a 3 pm start time. It's insulting to tell people an earlier time and make them sit there. If people truly care about you, they will make an effort to be there on time. I'm not going to enable their behavior by changing my plans b/c I think they'll be late.

Re: Did anyone put an earlier time for the church on their invite?
I was debating for a LONG time about this because i didn't want people to be waiting more than they had to, nor did i want people walking in with me! In the end i ended up putting 5pm for a 5:30pm start. I've been to 4 weddings so far and not ONE of them started at the exact time! People were walking in late during the ceremony! Plus like another bride said...5pm looks better on paper than 5:30!
