Honestly, I thought it was a really strange article. Obviously, the writer just spent an afternoon at the Huntington Town House. I really wouldn't consider that research, it definitely doesn't portray the entire island. I do have to agree on the fact that we are way different about weddings on the island. Any out of state wedding I have gone to was bizarre by our standards.

That was not a very unbiased article. it also didn't make sense. if his point was to showcase the lavish long Island wedding - why not describe a wedding that costs $200 pp which is very common. Why select a place that is not exactly well regarded and one that is a lot less expensive than other places. I just don't understand the point of the article since he didn't follow through with discussing over the top weddings.Huntington Town House is hardly over the top.
I think he missed an opportunity to write a really interesting article.
He really showcased Long Island cheese!!!
(I went to East Islip High School and graduated a year ahead of this girl in the article but I don't know who she is)

he really did miss out ona great article!I mean, yes, LI weddings are different from anywhere else! And yes, they do cost mor money - but so does EVERYTHING else on Long Island!!!
If he wanted a great article - he could have talked about renting out one of the historical mansions, or using the beach to make it a unique and special day - the things that make LI a great and interesting place to have a wedding!
Not just one catering hall/hotel. There are so many options ont he island - why talk about just one!? How boring!
Obviously, he's never planned a wedding!!!

I am still wondering how it took the girl mentioned in the article three weeks to wrap a few hershey's kisses in Tulle....

SORRY SO LONG
Alright ladies. This is where I must step in.I totally believe that everyone is entitled to their opinion . . .however, it bothers me when people start putting a dollar value on what makes a wedding 'special'. If someone spends $200 pp for their reception, that means it's BETTER than someone else who paid $65?? That's not fair to say.
I read the article over and over again and what I gathered from the article was that you do not have to have $100,000 to have a memorable, affordable wedding celebration....and yes, right here on Long Island. I found the article very encouraging for those brides would may not have $175 pp to spend on a reception hall.
Did you catch this paragraph?
But it's not simply the money spent that distinguishes a Long Island wedding, not in a land of $300,000 split-levels and $4 lattes. On Long Island, you don't have to be rich to require a little bit of luxury on your wedding day.
That's what the article was about. Yeah ok....the bride featured wrapped a few hershey kisses in tulle. Perhaps this particular favor was inexpensive in monetary value...but is that what makes a wedding better than another??
As a Huntington Townhouse bride, and for a bride who is planning long distance, I didn't have the the opportunity to review many halls. I placed a deposit (before discovering this board) and then was CRUSHED when I discovered that not many people had anything positive to say. But after a stern reality check, I was ok with the decision that I had made.
I only posted this because I think that somewhere in the planning process, we ALL get ourselves down about so many different things...the in-laws, the crazy and deranged bridesmaids, the flowers, the favors, etc. A friend recently told me that when I start to feel down, just think about how blessed I really am. There are SO MANY BRIDES that cannot afford to have a wedding at all. Some have to go to the justice of the peace, they don't have any pics of the joy and happiness they felt, they can't afford a reception so their friends and family won't be able to share and enjoy their day. In the end, it's really about having a MEMORABLE start to a beautiful life with your boo-boo.
I'm only sharing this to encourage....and not to bash anyone....so don't beat me up too badly. Thank you.
