DiD anyone Start Planning wedding B4 they got engaged???
Sorry It's a little long....
OK, FH hasn't actually popped the question yet, I picked out my ring a couple months ago & FH is still paying it off. FH went on his own and put money down on a ring which I overheard about it when he was talking to my mom. So I casually told him I wanted to look at rings and picked out a different one. I thought it would take a long time because for it to actually happen cause 'Dramatic Me' had to go fall in love with the biggest, extremely expensive ring we saw. But FH informed me that it is going to happen sometime this summer. So we already picked a date, I am using the dj that I had money down on for another event so he is letting me transfer it to this one and I am totally already planning... Is this wrong of me? Did anyone else do this? I'm just so excited and I figured I might as well start now because things book quick plus we have to start confirmation classes soon then the church says they want 9 months notice b4 the wedding. So I figured we better start getting all that straightened out now. I just need to vent because I feel like some people arent taking this seriously. Like one of my friends the other day was like ' so where's u'r ring' but it was just the way she said it. I'm just so excited I secretly go to the jewelry store all the time just to look at the ring and try it on. So one day FH goes to put $ on the ring and shows one of the sales girls my pic, the manager walks over & looks at the pic and says 'Oh I know her she comes in here all the time' So FH calls me and says 'Have you been going into the jewelry store?' I got busted! But sorry about being so long I just wanted to know if I'm the only one who's done this before they actually 'formally' got engaged???

We didn't put any money down until we got engaged. But we already knew the time of year, colors, BP and that it would be in a church with his friend as the priest.
If he is already paying it off, couldn't he give it to you? He knows he doesn't have to pay it off to ask right?

my fh and i have started planning before being officially engaged. we are looking at reception halls. we picked out my engagement ring too, but don't know when he will propose.. he will hopefully surprise me. i stress easily and would like more time to plan for late 2007.

We picked out the ring together but I didn't know exactly when he would propose. FH's sister got married right before we got engaged so when she was looking at halls, I went with her and was able to get an idea beforehand what I did and did not want.

Ok I did not know that...but here's the thing, the ring is in the actually jewelry store but he upgraded the center stone to a bigger, certified diamond and they said they cant order it in until it's fully paid off. I guess I just have to be patient but just knowing that it's deff. gonna happen within the next 2 months ( I got it out of him that it will be b4 Aug) is killing me! I'm the type of person that has to know everything. But I guess I have to just wait. Uh I guess this is what I get for being nosy.....

I am not 'officially' engaged. I mean I don't have a ring on my finger yet. I picked out exactly what I want and FH is working on it. But we opened up a separate wedding bank account in Sept. and have been saving. We booked the hall first in February and now we have the church, dj, photographer, videographer, and limos. We are doing it backwards. So the short answer to you question is yes. But we still consider ourselves engaged. FH calls me his fiance. The ring is coming soon tho.

Interesting. I've never heard of it not being yours til being paid off. It was officially ours months after I was wearing it.

BTW: A ring doesn't make you engaged. If he asks and you say yes, then you are engaged. You never need a ring.

Maybe I'm just feeling so anxious because a close friend of mine got engaged lastnight & one of FH's close friends (who will be in the BP) told FH yesterday he will be proposing this week and then we should go out to dinner with them right after...I got a little jealous, which I know was wrong of me and was thinking I would feel horrible going out to dinner with them having to look at her ring knowing I dont have mine. But I will get over it and go because I cant act like that ...but I really didnt know about the 'getting of the ring b4 it's paid off'...I am going 2 call FH at work right now & ask him to call the jewelry store & find out.....thank you all for just listening to me

I did! I got engaged Nov. 28,2005 and I had already started looking at halls weeks before he proposed. My 'excuse' was because my father lives in Brazil and he was coming to spend Christmas and I wanted to book the hall when my dad got here...lol We were together almost 5 years when he propose and I knew he was going to propose in the near future, I had actually anticipated getting engaged this Summer and then I thought maybe he would probably ask when my dad came for Xmas but he totally surprized me and asked 2 days b4 our 5 year anniversary. There's nothing wrong with being excited and planning, it's the nature of a woman to do so... XOXOXO Kitty

i didnt actually visit halls or anything....but i knew in my head what i liked and wanted.......the day we met falls on a weekend in 07 so i always said i wanted that date......and we have it now!

I am not 'officially' engaged either....I don't have a ring on my finger yet-he couldn't afford it at the time we started planning....We knew we wanted our 10 year anniversary...so we started planning a while ago...We pretty much have everything done, some people I have talked to have an issue with doing it this way, but as long as we don't I don't care...I just tell people that I don't need a ring to show me he loves me, when he can afford it...fine-I'm not going anywhere... You are definitely not alone...

Yes. We knew we wanted to get married. We actually looked at halls and even knew the date. We booked the hall and reverend. He officially asked in February.

I became an avid lurker on here searching for basic ideas and what not for a couple months before it was 'official' to the world...then i started posting on the other site...and well, they are some sour grapes...so i came back after tiring of it all. i like it here b/c you can be silly, be upset and shell out some great advice. i certainly didn't do any concrete planning, but i looked into DIY projects and looked at 100s of wedding dresses and hairstyles and such. i think it's a healthy obsession when you go so far as picking out the ring to do a little planning.

if you and your FH want to spend the rest of your lives together then you are engaged!!!! its just a ring...of course its symbolic, but plan away have fun and enjoy it with your FH!!!! COngrats!!!

We booked the church and already starting looking at halls before we got engaged! But he didn't make me wait too long.... three weeks after we met with the priest to set the date he proposed!

My FH told me he was saving money for a ring in December and yes from that moment on I was seriously looking at wedding stuff. Everyone thought I was crazy but I didn't care I was just too excited. So i don't blame you at all. You wait sooo long for this moment to happen. And there is nothing wrong in getting a little head start.

We started some initial planning shortly before we were engaged. We booked our RH November 5 and were engaged November 12. We both knew the engagement was coming and since we knew we definitely wanted to get married in 2006 we started looking around since we knew we needed at least a year to plan. Also, I don't live on LI, so we made the most of our time the couple of weekends we were home before we actually were engaged.

I didn't, but I do have one piece of advice I got from the ladies here and it was SOOOOOOOO good, it was too late for me, but it could help you.... WAIT to pick your bridal party!!!! I picked mine right away and it was totally a mistake. Like the ladies on here said, start your planning and see who is supportive and excited for you then pick.
