DiD anyone Start Planning wedding B4 they got engaged???

Sorry It's a little long....

OK, FH hasn't actually popped the question yet, I picked out my ring a couple months ago & FH is still paying it off. FH went on his own and put money down on a ring which I overheard about it when he was talking to my mom. So I casually told him I wanted to look at rings and picked out a different one. I thought it would take a long time because for it to actually happen cause 'Dramatic Me' had to go fall in love with the biggest, extremely expensive ring we saw. But FH informed me that it is going to happen sometime this summer. So we already picked a date, I am using the dj that I had money down on for another event so he is letting me transfer it to this one and I am totally already planning... Is this wrong of me? Did anyone else do this? I'm just so excited and I figured I might as well start now because things book quick plus we have to start confirmation classes soon then the church says they want 9 months notice b4 the wedding. So I figured we better start getting all that straightened out now. I just need to vent because I feel like some people arent taking this seriously. Like one of my friends the other day was like ' so where's u'r ring' but it was just the way she said it. I'm just so excited I secretly go to the jewelry store all the time just to look at the ring and try it on. So one day FH goes to put $ on the ring and shows one of the sales girls my pic, the manager walks over & looks at the pic and says 'Oh I know her she comes in here all the time' So FH calls me and says 'Have you been going into the jewelry store?' I got busted! But sorry about being so long I just wanted to know if I'm the only one who's done this before they actually 'formally' got engaged???

I didn't, but I do have one piece of advice I got from the ladies here and it was SOOOOOOOO good, it was too late for me, but it could help you.... WAIT to pick your bridal party!!!! I picked mine right away and it was totally a mistake. Like the ladies on here said, start your planning and see who is supportive and excited for you then pick.

AMEN!!!!! 2 of mine dropped out with less than 3 months to go.

I agree with the pp who said that you don't need a ring to be engaged. My parents have been married for 34 years and my mom never has never had a ring! He can ask away and give you the ring at a later date!!

if you and your FH want to spend the rest of your lives together then you are engaged!!!! its just a ring...of course its symbolic, but plan away have fun and enjoy it with your FH!!!! COngrats!!!

I wish my FH's family would understand that...my family considers us engaged, but when I was asked if I was engaged my FMIL chimed right in before I can answer and said OH NO.....they only consider it official when I have a ring...I love my In-Laws!!!

I always consider our official engagement the day we agreed to marry. I got the ring about a year later.

I don't have that problem but I would agree from what I read.

I only asked my MOH after I got officially engaged and I talked to FH. We discussed his best man and me my MOH

im in the same boat as you. we have been planning our wedding for about 2 months now looking at halls, thinking of themes and stuff. we decided on a hall already and we're about to put a deposit down. we pretty much set the date.

FH picked up my e ring saturday and we're leaving for disney in a few hours and while we're there he's proposing so i guess im *** backwards too!!

the thing that got me the most (which you were saying) is when people thought i was being 'crazy' and that im not 'engaged' so i shouldnt be planning. i felt like i was nuts all of the time cause people were making me feel that way. and when i told people that he was buying the ring, they go 'oh so he's actually gonna do this? its for real' it hurts my feelings. ahh sorry im venting

FH asked on April 1, and presented me with a ring on July 26.

We set the date, the budget, and the approximate number of guests before he asked. I started looking at halls after he asked but before I had the ring. All deposits were made after I got the ring.

FH and I started talking marriage before he was sent to Afghanistan in 2003 and while he was there, I started putting my ideas together for the wedding. I didn't look around at hall or anything else, but I got all the bridal magazines to see what was out their. He didn't propose until he came home in 2004.

I had ring on layaway and had some plansin the works before he popped the question. We even went to a few bridal expos together. I see nothing wrong with getting a jump start!!!

YES!!!!! We started talking about when we would like to get married then we started looking a places. He asked me right after we looked at one of the halls!

FH and i started a little planning before we got engaged - we knew we wanted a summer wedding and we started looking at places.

We did not put any money down until we got engaged.

FH had pretty much asked me to marry him but said he wanted to save longer to be able to a. get me a nice ring that i would never have to replace or re-do and b. pay for it all in one shot b/c he didn't want to have a loan on it... so he asked me to marry him and i said yes but he did the 'get down on one knee w/ the ring' months later b/c he needed the time to save up the cash!

so we planned little things, we didn't book anything until after but we went to showcases and looked at halls-- to get an idea of what we wanted. we were also originally looking for 2006 but then my sister got engaged so we decided to hold off a year-- plus, more time to save!
